Alan Davies and Hillsborough-gate: what's your level of outrage?

So is it protest, rather than commemoration?

If it is, then that would be legitimate (IMO) and I think it would be supported by the vast majority of fans (and others).

But if it's protest then it needs to be framed as such, and I don't think it is at the moment.

No, I think it is commemoration. But I think that when a tragedy such as this has failed to be appropriately dealt with, or managed, for want of a better word, then that commemoration perhaps serves more than one purpose, or becomes more 'extreme' than normal procedure (the wearing of a black armband, a minute's silence, whatever). Because it's kind of all you have left, because you can't close the chapter and move on.

I'm not sure this is coming out how I intend it to tbh. =/

I'd certainly accept that but I don't think Heysel can be thrown in their as an excuse, it was their crime not their tragedy, even if you wouldn't know it by the way some like to present any mention of it as the same as slandering the 96.

No but all that surrounded it, the issue re other factors being ignored by the authorities created a siege mentality.

The problem is the FA should have seen this coming, it's the first time it's happened in 22 years and they really should have handled it better, Liverpool are not at fault anywhere in this, the issue that should be discussed is the FAs incompetence at handling the situation.

*as far as I know.
It's come up a few times. The FA and other football clubs have been fine with it, it's just this time some no-mark has had a rant on a podcast and all the other twats are joining in.

hard to really give a fuck for them with that one, considering they got all English clubs banned and never served their full ban themselves.

you can talk about allthe other factors all you want but it was Liverpool fans who attacked the Juventus fans, knocked over the wall and caused the deaths, everything else is just excuse making.

and yes it was a crime waiting to happen with many English clubs and their violent fans but that's no excuse.

You seem to be thinking I like what they did or their fetid club? The fucking scandal of Hillsborough and the legacy it has created is, I would have thought, an issue for anyone who claims pro-working class politics.

Your post makes perfect sense. But if anything it makes a case that more should be made of the refusal to play. If it's merely commemoration then I can see that as potentially problematic. If, however, it's made into a form of protest, then that could be quite powerful if handled the right way.

yes and have I ever said anything contrary with Hillsborough?

it doesn't give them a by ball to be mental fucks though.

Another person who agrees with him, other than about Chelsea.

The semi-final was replayed as it was the fans would've wanted. I believe they also would've wanted to play Everton, the perfect opponent.

What about the timing of the chelsea game when they face barcelona something like 2 days later then arsenal and then barcelona again, this is a season defining moment for Chelsea and it could be fucked by Liverpools refusal to play on Sunday (and the FA being twats which is the bigger problem). Out of the other 6 times when this could have happened how many have been in a similar set of circumstances?

It's not two days, it's three and that's what happens at this time of the season, the fixtures pile up if you're winning. The FA could help, but they're useless tossers. What six times are you on about?

The 6 times that the 15th has fallen on either a Saturday or Sunday when fixtures are harder to move (even then unless it's cup games like this weekend it's easy to switch games around to Liverpool). The idea that a precedent has been set for Liverpool not to play on the 15th is fine but in previous seasons it's never had an impact on another club like it has this year.

This is a massive failure by the FA to plan for this situation, but Liverpool have made a choice, and that choice disadvantages Chelsea and I don't believe Liverpool have the right to dictate when they can and can't play if it affects other teams no matter how valid their reasons are.

Our choice needn't have to have disadvantaged Chelsea at all and it shouldn't have, but for the FA.

I'd question whether three days rest or four days rest is really that big a deal btw.

There is nono actual evidence to show that LFC are wanting to play on this day let alone the fans. The fuck-up lies with the FA and their Wembley wankathons. Go back to semi-finals at Old Trafford, Villa Park, 'Highbury' etc and this would not have happened.

I think we can all agree the FA are shit :D I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the rest time, it would be different if the first leg was away though. The late kick off on the sunday is really shit though, what were the FA thinking of (money probably) when they arranged that one.

Are there other Sunday kick-offs on Sky? If so there's your answer....

By that logic surely noone should play on April 15th

What has the venue got to do with any of this? Have the semi at Wembley and more fans can go. Some people are more in to tradition then common sense. We don't exactly live in the largest of countries and it shouldn't be hard to organise a coach if the trains are too expensive.

Because in this instance OT would have been the perfect venue for the Northern semi, and then both semi's could have been played on the same day giving Chelsea the extra day they want, and Liverpool avoid playing on the Sunday.

he is a truly awful cunt of a human being
This, and his twitter followers are a brainless baying mob and all. If I saw him in public and had a drink in my hand, it would get flung in his face (mainly because of an incident involving him and one of my children). I also think he's a racist. Latinos loathe him.

Can they play the games at the same day same tim if they're both at Wembley??? If they reverted to what was always preferred then they could have both games on Saturday and no reason for Davies cretinous remarks.

where's the sense in having the national football stadium in london to start with? and why is it common sense for two sets of fans to travel hundreds of miles to see the same match?
London has the best transport network in the country. So should the final be at a nearby venue as well? Perhaps if Man Utd meet Man City in the final they could play at The Reebok?

True, but this marvelous stadium of ours needs to be paid somehow.

a national stadium should have been built further north than london. somewhere in the middle of the country. preferably to the west as the majority of teams in the premier league at the moment are from lancashire (inc. former lancashire) and the west midlands.
