Hackney chitter-chatter &tc

Presumably the road will still be closed on Monday, and I'm guessing loads of buses will be diverted too, which will be chaos for commuters.

I've just seen a northbound 149 going up Crossway. Assume it'll be going via Shacklewell Lane/Rectory Rd/Brooke Rd(?) but who knows.

My friend's staying with other friends just now. She was evacuated with only the clothes she had on so is currently wearing random borrowed stuff. (And hoping she'll at least be able to get in to retrieve some stuff on Monday but who knows. :()

I wondered about the bus routes coming up from Dalston, wondered if they would be turning at the Crossway then going up towards Newington Green, down Albion Road to Stokey High Street and then left towards Stamford Hill?
It shouldn't affect the buses going the other way as they turn down Northwold Road and bypass High Street.

So sorry about your friend :( has she any idea about what happened?

I feel sorry for the shops that have had to close too, whether they will get any sort of compensation for loss of income?
If they do it's likely to be a very long process.

I got a 149 home last night. Just before Dalston Junction, the driver announced the bus was going on diversion and wouldn't be stopping again until it approached Church St. Don't think any of the kids on their way out were listening as I was the only one who got off...

There was scaffolding up that had been their for absolutely ages (some nonsense with the management company/freeholder ) but there were actually workmen there that day. Unclear whether they did something or whether it was due to the work that needed done not having been for ages.

Yeah, I suspect that there's going to be loads of arguing between different insurance companies etc, depending on what they discover caused it. :(

More road closure problems on the A10 :(
As well as the section in Stokey, a section of the road in Dalston is completely closed by the Police - not sure what's happened...

That article says that bus routes 76, 149, 242 and 243 have been diverted.

It doesn't mention route 67, which seemed not to be running when I was waiting for one northbound from Stamford Hill a little while ago :(

Yes, it's weird that - I'd walked up from Dalston to get a bus at the bottom of Stamford Hill. There were two 67 buses by the stop near Abney Park which had terminated there :hmm:
There were also a couple of out of service buses standing there but I heard a driver say to someone that he was waiting for a replacement driver, I don't know what route they were going to be.
Must be a nightmare for them today with diversions both ways from Northwold Road to Haggerston.

And a train strike on too.

In case anyone is interested in acquiring any free maps, a map printer in one of the Hackney Downs studios is having a clear out on Monday afternoon prior to a move.

Ooh. I’m WFH on Monday. May pop over for a look. Thanks blossie. :)

A post on a secret police report on the Council's police accountability committee in the early 1980s which included "a self declared lesbian" shock horror!

It includes a comment by Brynley Heaven who was on the committee (and who would later become the scourge of the squatters).

The wonderland is back , 25-28th , looking forward to wandering the streets 😀

The disgrace of how Hackney Labour wasted the riot fund money on that golden turd down Morning Lane continues:

And is throwing good money after bad at these (privatised) outlets...
Hackney Council will use some of the £19m from the government's levelling-up fund for Hackney Central "to help bring empty spaces back into use", the spokesperson added.

I walk down there occasionally - never saw many people in the shops, tbf, it was a surprise when I first saw those 'high end' shops there :D it isn't exactly a man drag.

Always wondered what that was all about. What a waste of money. Wouldn’t mind if it had been some property investors wasting their cash but that’s essentially public money and no one stood up to say it was a stupid idea? Bonkers.

The "strategy" was to have people come out of the station, walk down the length of the trendy hipster arches, out the other end and into a set of luxury outlets enclave keystoned by Burberry. Which anyone with half a brain could tell wasn't going to work because a good chunk of that walk is down a windy road round the back of the big Tescos with lots of traffic and not a huge amount of room for well to do pedestrians. Probably looked great on a map though. There were a few years of having to point confused looking tourists in fashionable duds in the right direction but that's long since stopped.

It's where that Burberry outlet used to be isn't it - I never went there but I believe it was popular - I'm guessing they thought people would still go there.
