Gymnastics thread

I've never seen a nation get so happy over winning a bronze medal. The Brits think it's ok to come third...which is wrong! ;)

Bronze and gold look pretty much the same colour anyway. As long as they're not next to each other for comparison...
I think they should change 3rd prize to green.

I think they're lovely.
A woman at work pointed out he bleeeeding obvious to me today - they're English roses. Never twigged.

Ooooh! The bronze boys are talking on the telly now. Wooo hooo!

Sad person that I am, I decided to investigate the flowers

The bouquets
The victory bouquet has been designed by Jane Packer, an internationally renowned UK florist. The bouquet represents the vibrancy of the Games and the four sections hold a different variety of the rose, an iconic British flower. Each section is also divided with traditional herbs – mint, rosemary, English lavender and wheat. These British-grown ingredients are designed to provide an unusually eclectic fragrant mix.

I also found out about the costumes the bearers/presenters are wearing which I thought were strange

The costumes
The ceremonial costumes will be worn by Games Maker volunteers in athlete and presenter escort roles, and flower and medal bearer roles. Thomas Crisp and Trine Hav Christensen’s elegant and dynamic designs represent London and its architecture with a modern twist, mixing Greek mythology as well as British heritage.

The hat worn by the presenter escorts – designed by former student Zara Gorman – is inspired by the architecture of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games venues combined with aspects of British tailoring and sportswear.

Right. Clear as mud then

I sky plussed it last night as I don't get in from work until 6.15. Had to avoid this thread but it was propoer tense waiting for that appeal to go through.

Good job by the lads.

I am sky pussing today, tomorrow and Thursday as well :)

Did Matt Baker used to do any gymnastics by the way? He seems pretty knowledgable for a lay man and I seem to remember him doing some sort of flip on Strictly. :hmm:

Ah, that does ring a bell actually. I'm sure I've seen him doing gymnastics somewhere.

I rather like those purple outfits, but not the pointy hat.

Wiki

Born in Easington, County Durham, Baker's father ran a newsagents shop,[2] and his parents had a smallholding in the village. He attended Easington Village School, then when he was aged 10, his parents bought a farm west of Durham, which they moved into and renovated.[3] He has one sister and two half-sisters.
He continued his education at Belmont Comprehensive School in Durham,[4] and was a Junior British gymnast and sports acrobatics champion,[5] but was forced to give up after being diagnosed with anaemia aged 14.[6] After this he undertook various activities to fill the gap in his life, including sheepdog trials[3] and pole vaulting.[6]

I don't understand how they were inspired by architecture (although I suppose the hat could be). And those red clothes make me think of someone working in a kitchen with a teatowel stuck on their waist:D

I remember from last Olympics liking Gabrielle Douglas and er... can't remember first name Raisman from US, plus obviously the Chinese.

Will need to have a look when I get back who else I liked 4 years ago :D

Christ. i guess ive never watched gymnastics before. this is fucking weird. it's like Miss World, junior edition.

must be a bit off-putting having your coach standing under the bars telling you what to do. surely they already know their shit well enough.
