always a stop for a pint and a spliff before driving up to the highlands to ( not catch any ) fish

That's my kind of boozer.

Pulque, for those of you yet to taste it's joys, is a mildly acloholic, slightly fizzy cloudy gloop whose colour and consistency closely match a number of bodily fluids. Traditional though.

You make it sound bad. I loved it :D Though I think I was drinking more artisan stuff rather than ordinary village gloop.

I guess "Mike the Pies" in Listowel is a great pub although there are better there and I'd be a fool to list them.

There was also the bar in some end of the road fishing town in Alaska where, stone cold sober, the locals forced me to sing Barry Manilow on the karaoke.

Good times.

The cafe at Paleo Pyli is worth a visit. You have to walk half way up a mountain through a crumbling deserted village to get to it and when you do you can gaze across to the next peak at the ruins of a medieval castle and all the way to the sea beyond.

It's the only inhabited building for miles.

The Banana Sombrero on Koh Phi Phi (for the name)

The Brickhouse in Vancouver (for the comfy sofas and general all round ambiance)

The bar on top of the Vatican is a quite nice place to have a drink, tho I think they've stopped the serving of beer now

Pickman's model - forgot to say - we went to Kennedy's last Sat night (Easter Sat) on your recommendation. There were hardly anyone in at all but it was only about 7:30pm. Quick drink and we were on our way. Like all the other bloody pubs the only cider I could get was Magners.. *sigh*. When my aunt asked where I'd been (it's only a few doors down from Fagan's) I got the "that's one of Bertie Ahern's pubs" line. Again. She said that people would still have been at/coming back from Easter mass (the last mass on a Sat usually counts for the Sunday) so had we been a bit later we'd have caught a crowd. I didn't think of that having not done the whole mass thing for many years.

Go on a hot, sunny day. Take a bike for a ride through the park and then stop off at the best beer garden ever. Sit by the lake with a surprisingly cheap Dunkel. Relax on the deck chairs or take out a row boat. So nice. I would be in there all the time if I lived in Berlin.

That's where merkels gun toting thugs scared the bollocks off me one day...crept up behind me dead quiet and just stood there with their Machine guns sticking out of their suits either side of me. Didn't know the cow was twenty foot behind me . My mates had big wide eyes telling me not to move...all tense whispers..thought my number was up. turned out they just wanted a photo of her with me in it.

Nearly had a wee dunked myself, free of charge .

The Caribou in Madison, Wisconsin. A great neighbourhood bar, even better when it's on your walk home and it's -15C and blowing snow.

I was going to propose "The Linde " in Blankenese in Hamburg. It was my home local as opposed to my work local from about 1984 to 1992. A wonderful dive in the richest suburb of one of the richest cities in the BRD. One of my workmates and his wife were native Blankenese; on one night out I said lets go to the Linde and his wife said 'Oh no, they are all criminals and lowlife'. luckily we persuaded her and they all turned out to be be her ex-schoolmates. Sadly however I just googled the place and it's had a massive make over.

White trash , Berlin , looks like its out of Mad Max with fire balls being spat upwards in the outside area at night ( kinda reminded me of Arcadia... ) , inside its a bit rocktastic with a stage and all.

Oh and its got a tattoo parlour
