Golliwog in the window - should this really be in court?

I mean for decades all there was was white emulsion paint, then in the 70's we got Magnolia. The 90's came along and suddenly it was all 'white with a hint of puke', and now of course we have, dead fish belly, and smeg.
I saw a white dog turd in the street the other day and actually took a picture of it with the vague intention of sending a letter into Viz or something. I suppose that's another subject white history month could cover?

I was in Jaywick last month, that's just down from Clacton, walking along the coast there the ramshackle seafront houses often have all manner of ornamental tut Infront of them.

One in particular was particularly covered in gnomes and ceramic owls and shit, but the piece de la resistance was in the main glass doorway, facing the world was a large stuffed toy chimp holding a gollywog. I thought maybe to take a picture but decided against in the end. Id like to think they didn't have a clue , but it was given such a prominent position it felt like a statement piece. So weird round there

I know that pub and it's been well known as one of the most racist pubs in the area for a long time, and it's got a lot of competition.

"A publican backed by the Home Secretary Suella Braverman over displaying golliwog dolls in his Essex pub was today (Note: 11 April 2023) exposed for a series of racist social media posts ..."

Braverman-backed pub owner boasted his golliwog dolls hung like lynching victims

When I say I know it well, I mean I used to live five minutes' walk away. It's a pretty pub with a view over the river, and does roast dinners and real ale. I'd grown up in the area but hadn't actually been to that pub before ever, or been to any pub in that area for years.

They refused to serve my then-GF, who was Chinese. Outright refused. I was pretty certain it was about race; my GF was quite wealthy and not used to such establishments, so she asked me to try, thinking it was just a locals thing or something, or maybe she was imagining it. They saw who I was sitting with, and simply refused to serve us. Standing back, arms crossed. We gave up, but I had to use the loo, and as I came out, one of the bar blokes was trying to grope my GF, with everyone else just looking on. He stopped back when I came out, which was odd. I'm also female and don't look tough at all.

Then they let us out of the pub through a line of men around the door. We both assumed it was to make sure we left, but actually they felt us up, mostly aiming for my GF and making comments about her tits (in a shirt that completely covered them).

(I might have reported it to the police despite the guarantee of repercussions, but I didn't have to make that decision because my then-GF was adamant about not reporting it, or if I did, I'd have to leave her out of it).

When I mentioned it to two of my neighbours, they were just like, what did you expect? I just hadn't heard of that pub's reputation before - apparently everyone else knew.

I didn't live around there much longer after that, but when I did, I crossed the road to avoid that pub. They are racist, sexist, rapey fuckers.

this just correlate with an Nth repost on facebook about them "refusing" an asian kid access to use the loo in there
nope
not a racist cesspit at all
thank you cruella for standing up for them

This is my local CAMRA branch. Last interaction with one of their stalwarts resulted in being told to Fuck Off. Have previously been worried that was an indicator of misbehaviour on my part ( can't clearly remember the lead up) now take it as a mark of pride.
Well I'm certainly proud of you 👍

That's awful Sam  I've not been to Grays , nothing has previously recommended it to me, and I doubt it ever will. The Gollywog thing has brought out the usual ragtag of racist loons - saying they aren't racist - I note that the Landlord appears to be on holiday or actually living in Turkey, which is bizarre, and his wife has had to face all the scrutiny and not handle it well - his only clean t-shirt was a Britain First t-shirt apparently - hanging Gollywogs in the bar isn't racist , etc. And some folk have actually sent her Gollywogs after the 1st lot were confiscated by the Police. It's a den of racist cunts tbf
