Gigs you went to in 2023 - list them here

Yungblud (Brum)
Henry Rollins - stories rather than music (Nottingham)
Steel Beans (Nottingham)
Various at mate's festival (Derbyshire)
Also the Tailenders podcast tour in Nottingham which included a small amount of music.

It's not been the easiest year to do gig going for me. Hopefully I'll redress the balance next year.

Gabriels (Empire, Coventry)
Bombay Bicycle Club (Empire, Coventry)
Foals (Utilita, Birmingham)

ETA I'm including White Men Can't Funk playing my own wedding/festival

Nina Nastasia (EartH)
Come (Cafe Oto)
Reverend Horton Heat (New Cross Inn)
Stewart Copeland (can't remember where this was  )

Not very many at all this year, but all four were absolutely brilliant. Particularly the first two, very emotional.

Mogwai (Usher Hall) I think this was actually between Christmas and New Year last year but I'm counting it
Peter Hook doing Joy Division (Corn Exchange O2)
Young Fathers (Usher Hall)
Slackhead Incident (King Tut's, this is significant because it was my daughter on stage at King Tut's! Which felt like quite a big deal)

I think that might be it this year.

Suede (O2 Academy, Glasgow)
Biig Piig (King Tuts)
De La Soul (well, not quite; managed to have a ticket fuck-up)
Leftfield (again, had ticket, but ended up clashing with a relative's funeral, so couldn't go)
Bonobo (SWG3)
Sofia Kourtesis (Cova Santa, Ibiza)
Overmono (SWG3)
The Streets (O2 Academy)
Jessie Ware (Barrowlands)

Trivium + Heaven Shall Burn + Malevolence (Hammersmith Apollo)
USA Nails + The Eurosuite + Staff Party (Prince Albert, Brighton)
Black Flag + Total Chaos (Forum Kentish Town)
Hoods + Brick By Brick + Stone Hand + We Are Nameless (Green Door Store, Brighton)
Tokky Horror (Black Heart, Camden)
This Will Destroy Your Ears (The Pipeline, Brighton)
Cuffs + Penance Stare + Gender Crisis + Lump Hammer + Good Cop + Silent Weapon (New Cross Inn)
Panic Shack + SNAYX (The Horn, St Albans)
Enter Shikari (HERE Outernet, London)
Skating Polly + Spaff (Hope & Ruin, Brighton)
Knife Bride + Blue Eyed Giants + Glass grave (Green Door Store, Brighton)

I Prevail + Trash Boat (Wembley Arena)
Gender Warfare + incaseyouleave + Epsom Salts (The Pipeline, Brighton)
God Alone (Prince Albert, Brighton)
HotWax + SNAYX (Printworks, Hastings)

Think I missed a couple of these but didn't delete them from my calendar, but I probably went to one or two small local shows at the last minute without adding them as well. Gigs are one of the few things I miss since moving here.

John Cale (London Palladium)
LA Salami (Lafayette)
Pixies (Roundhouse)
Eels (Roundhouse)
Yo La Tengo (London Palladium)
Pulp (Finsbury Park)
Bruce Springsteen (Hyde Park)
PJ Harvey (Roundhouse)
The Blue Aeroplanes (Electric Ballroom)
Brian Eno (RFH)
Stereolab (Electric Brixton)
Teenage Fanclub (eARTh)
Black Grape (Electric Ballroom)

There were probably the same number of classical concerts/opera.

Japanese Television
The Comet is Coming (KOKO)
Loop (The Garage)
The Waeve (Lafayette)
Morrissey (Hammersmith Apollo)
Pet Shop Boys (Wembley Arena)
Blur (Wembley Stadium)
Pulp (Hammersmith Apollo)

I'm sure this is the most in one year by some stretch..

Lizzo (Utilita, Birmingham)
Suede (St David's Hall, Cardiff, given they've discovered the roof is full of raac and I can't see the council being up to pay for the repairs might be the last gig I see in that wonderful building)
Beyonce (Principality Stadium, Cardiff)
Various people @ Tafwyl (free Welsh language music festival in Bute Park, Cardiff)
Chemical Brothers/2ManyDJs/Hot Chip (Alexandra Head @ Cardiff Bay) Gig of the year, great music, amazing weather, right down by the sea
Annie Mac (Depot, Cardiff)

Would have gone to a few smaller gigs, particularly pissed off to have missed Richard Dawson at The Gate but seemed to be a year where lots of stuff I wanted to see clashed with real life 100% must-attend family/work engagements.

Glad for iona and Hollis's posts above so I don't look like a total showoff. Been a busy year, not listing out absolutely everything but ones that stand out are Cool Greenhouse, Black Flag with Total Chaos, Early Mornings, Ex-Void, No Age, Napalm Death with Dropdead and Siberian Meat Grinder, Fucked Up, Kneecap, The Beths, Audiobooks, Le Tigre, Xiu Xiu, Ribbon Stage, The Oppressed (with a load of less memorable oi bands), Jeanines, DRI, Eyehategod, Chat Pile, Full of Hell, Cloud Rat, Restarts with Disassociate, Aguaviva with Clear Channel, Lande Hekt, Los Fastidios, Protomartyr, Allo Darlin', Home Front, Madball, OFF!, and Porridge Radio. Plus a few fests - Sounds From the Other City, Supersonic, Built to Blast and made it to a little bit of Fat Out Fest too.

Moin (Kings Place)
Depeche Mode (Antwerp)
Pat Metheny (Hammersmith)
Fontaines DC (Hammersmith)
The Comet Is Coming (Somerset House)
Laurie Anderson (Barbican)
The Weeknd (London Stadium)
Deerhoof (Lafayette)
Clark (EartH)
Laurel Halo (Barbican)
Protomartyr (Electric Ballroom)
Ryoji Ikeda (Barbican)
Space Afrika (Kings Place)

That’s the fewest I’ve gone to for longer than I can remember but hey, I’m getting old. I’d have seen a few more at Rally festival which I had a ticket for but it pissed down all day and I couldn’t be bothered to go.

Btw l didn’t go over specially to Belgium to see Depeche Mode (I’m not that into them) but I was over there anyway so I got a ticket and went.

After how much I'd ended up enjoying their album, I had been slightly regretting that I missed Wednesday when they came here, but just checked the dates and realised that the night they played was the same night as Le Tigre, so that choice was only ever going to go one way.
Been out dancing a bit and done a couple of parties, but I think the only gig this year was Kneecap
Sure I must've mentioned this before, but that Leeds grind fest having an afterparty with Spongebob Squarewave and Vincent Van Sloth was a pretty special moment.

I haven’t been to a gig since 2020, but it’s nice to know that they still exist. From the list above, I would be happy to filch the memories of Pulp, Pixies and Mogwai. Although maybe if it was possible to abstract experiences from someone else’s mind, then their tastes would transfer as well, even rendering Iona and Hitmouse’s terrifying selections as fun nights out.

Went to 8 festivals as well, so saw a lot more bands. Pleased to see how many times I went to the Railway (local venue) to see bands I’d never heard of. Some have been really good.

Bugger, wish I'd known this one was on, would've been good seeing them again. Ah well, was a busy year anyway. Did you say you'd seen Brorblab at Fuel as well? And is that actually two separate Dawn Ray'd gigs at TWH? Fair enough for making the most of them while you can if so.
