Geometric Art/ Mandala

I started doing geometric art during lockdown, and find it to be quite therapeutic. I was doing a lot at the start of this year (I think it contributed to a bit of neck pain and stiffness 😅), but have not been doing so much recently. However, did a piece for a friend's birthday card earlier today, and took a video of most of the process:

I've got a few photos to post up...

Anyone else into creating/ viewing geometric art/ mandala?

You may notice that three of the above hand drawn pictures are basically the same pattern. I feel like I'm still finding my feet, and want to add more flare, but still happy doing geometric studies of the type above so far.

Hesitate to call the hand drawings 'art' - as above, think they are more just geometric studies. The digital stuff is a bit more arty... photo collage mandala. Would like to revisit that, but having great source material helps, and feel I've plumbed the depths of my photo collection a bit already. Might have to go out with the intention of acquiring photos for the purpose of making photo collage mandala at some point, or try and be a bit more creative/ try new things.

I found GIMP has a lovely symmetry feature ...

I've just started pencil and ink mandalas, with my posh compass, it is one of the most absorbing things I've ever done! I've not got anything to show the class yet, as I'm more about enjoying the process at the moment. So I can see after the seed of life, where I think I want to go, but right now I'm learning the swing of the compass, and dividing angles, and the replication of petals using arcs...it's mind-blowing to me that all this isn't so much created, as uncovered....

I also find that you can't just breathe all over the place when you're compass swinging or pen inking, you make a fucking mess if you try, so you have to take swings or pen lines in between breaths, so the whole exercise becomes one of slowing down, and being mindful of not just that single step ahead of you, but where that single step sits in the huge pattern of creation.

Yeah, late comer. Never letting go. That's me and mandalas.

I'm learning everything from this Brummie guy called Zac, he's cool as fuck and his video lessons are brilliant. Even watching his pencil technique has been revelatory, but it's the philosophy of the mandala that he reminds us to focus on, if drawing mandalas chills you out, and they do, then this guy is 90 degrees to the perpendicular...
