Gaza under attack yet again.

So, the IDF thinks it has dealt with the tunnels.
But it has not disarmed Hamas whose rockets continue to fly.
What next?

The IDF operation has a limited window, if they pull back and Hamas keeps firing rockets, Hamas has won this round. It is also winning the public opinion battle, even Tory and UKIP cunts I met in the pub recon Israel has gone too far. People dont like seeing dead kids on the news everynight.

I am not sure it is relevant to talk of winners in this situation.

That reminds me of something I forgot to post last week.

How come the Kremlin and Beijing have been so very, very quiet?

I suspect the Russians have not been that quiet at all.

"Hamas political bureau leader Khaled Meshaal will visit Moscow in the coming weeks, where he is expected to ask Russia to help restore Hamas' ties with Iran and to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to soften his opposition to the Islamist movement.

As for China...
"China also made mediation efforts. China's special envoy on Middle East Issues Wu Sike visited Palestine, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar and the headquarters of the Arab League from July 15-25. Wu told a press briefing on July 28 that China will continue to promote a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip."

And yesterday...

"China FM urges Israel, Hamas to stop Gaza fighting

At a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo, Chinese Foreign Minister called on Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas to stop fighting"

Its a war, what else is it about.
Specific Achievements.
If you think Hamas may have won, what exactly did they win? the blockade is still in place, they lost tens of tunnels and their side lost nearly 2,000 killed and many thousands injured many seriously. How is that a win?

They will have proven they can take all Israel can throw at them and still keep the cowardly Israelis running to air raid shelters, the rockets will keep coming. This is the price Israelis pay for the blockade, which makes them live in fear, in time the rockets will be a bargaining chip, stop the blockade, we stop the rockets.

Not much of a strategic thinker are you, bet you pay the full price for everything too.

IOW they are doing pretty much what the west is doing.....urging both sides to stop fighting.

Time will tell.

They are back to where they were 4 months ago minus their tunnels. I don't see Israel rushing to negotiate away the blockade myself.

Not much of a strategic thinker are you, bet you pay the full price for everything too.

Absolutely not as it is in Palestine. If they don't want a multi ethnic, multi faith, democratic, non sectarian country they can fuck off to the USA or wherever.
.

Do you think other countries in the region want "multi ethnic, multi faith, democratic, non sectarian populations"?
I mean...does anyone think or believe that
"multi ethnic, multi faith, democratic, non sectarian populations" are welcomed by Hamas? Or Isis?

Just as an aside...bit of history...
Palestine or Canaan...was a land originally populated by Israelites and canaanites (phonecians)...

"under Constantine the Great, Palestine became a Christian province and remained so from 330-640 CE when the land fell to invading Muslim forces. Palestine continued to be a war-torn and much contested region up through the time of the Crusades and, of course, even to the present day."

Israel's population...up to 2008

Interestingly the % of muslims has increased....

I am not sure it is relevant to talk of winners in this situation.
It's not irrelevant - it's just that the concept of "winner" has been redefined.

And that's where Israel is always going to lose. Back in 1948, "losing", to the Palestinians, meant being turfed out of their homes, off their land, farms, and so on. Later, it meant having to move on leaving possessions and treasured belongings behind. Slowly (or perhaps not so slowly) it became having to be crammed into, effectively, slums or refugee camps in foreign lands, stateless, homeless and resourceless.

When "losing" occupies such a broad scope, you take your wins where you can get them - not just the Palestinians, but any of us. When almost everything has been taken away from you, as it has from the Palestinians, and when they know that they will, regardless of how peaceable they may be as individuals, be subject to collective punishment and constant harassment for the alleged infractions of some small number of them, then it is not hard to see how any act of defiance, from stone throwing to missile launching, will be able to be regarded as "not losing", or "winning".

And if you are likely to get shot down in cold blood for stone-throwing, why on earth not take it easy, and fire rockets instead?

This problem has, every step of the way, been of Israel's making. That is not to say that every Palestinian is right-thinking, well-behaved, moral, decent and upstanding. But they have an excuse not to be those things - what's Israel's excuse?

Thats what you get when you
"Crush the Enemy
Steal their Lands
Cause the lamentations of their women"
Slightly distorted quote by memory of Tamerlane, AKA, Timur the Lame

As you've gone all historical:-
Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb
Kurdish state, incorporating Palestine would be a healthy move, dontcha fink?
Oh I forgot, neither fact nor thought delay your blather

I liked your message but not the personal attack at the end.

Worldwide revulsion against Israel?

Do you think antisemitism will rear its ugly head worldwide as a result...?

I read a report the other day of an elderly jewish lady refused medical treatment in Belgium by a doctor who told her to go to Gaza and her pain would be gone. She had lived through the extermination by hitler. A 90 year old woman refused treatment by a doctor. There are other reports of Jews in European countries being refused service in shops...These are European Jews who have never set foot in Israel and don't particularly want to set foot in Israel either.

Is it true that Israel judges the amount of food that gets into Gaza on the minimum amount of calories needed by each member of the population? :hmm:

That was the information posted on this thread a while ago. I have no idea if its true, but it sounds like the type of superficially tough but ultimately self-defeating nonsense that this Israeli government would come up with. After all, the food controls brought in during WW2 had the effect of making the British populace healthier than it has ever been before or since.

Yes. See post days ago about the FRNATIC TWEETR who, as far as I can tell, is really afraid that the stupidity of the State of Israel will lead to people shunning her, or worse. I'm afraid she's right.

All good for persuading all Jews that they must emigrate to Israel, I suppose

But as for these alleged specifics:

She had lived through the extermination by hitler. A 90 year old woman refused treatment by a doctor. Too pat and too timely to be true?

In these times of propaganda, you can see why one might ask: source please?

I said world wide revulsion against Israel, if it allows bigots and other assorted nut jobs free reign worldwide then that is just an unfortunate consequence, but being refused service in shops? Terribly inconvenient it might be but it sorta pales into insignificance when compared to what is happening in Gaza, don't you think?

I did mention the muslim invasion. ...did I need to name Saladin?

Yes. But not, I gather, if you've been fed a constant diet of "this is how it starts"...
