pop will eat itself.

what the fuck?

you've been waiting for ages to say that on this thread. i reckon the poppies thread is what prompted you to start this one.

you're so see-through. and so, so wrong :(

Radiohead.

I didn't use to mind them but I was never a huge fan but then after seeing them live I've come to the conclusion they write music intended to attract notice and impress others not because it's fun and they enjoy it. Total turn off for me.

I expect I'll be alone in saying Radiohead. But it needs saying. Boring, plodding, self-obssessed twaddle. Did I say self-important? Why there was never a Radiohead backlash I'll never know. Never seen them live though. Maybe it's a live thing. But lawks their records are dull.

Seconded.

i don't like Radiohead - i think they're really dull and fall far short of their ambitions. But they do actuallY HAVE ambition, which makes them (slightly) better than people like the Manics, Oasis etc

Actually I once crashed my bike while listening to the Fiery Furnaces. I think the simultaneous tasks of continuing riding whilst also finding any way to make their fucking dreadful and almost entirely random noise stop, amongst its own brain melting confusion, was far too much for anyone.

But at least the Manics and Oasis have better tunes.

I've seen all three bands live.

Manics were brilliant and fun.

Oasis were boring and pedestrian but at least you could sing along with the crowd.

Radiohead actually made me run away and go and see another band.

a thread dedicated to bands whose critical or commercial success always mystified you...

1: the shamen.

why?

The shamen were quite good, apart from mr 'coming OOOOOOOON like a seven sence' C who was embarressing.... a sort of a british turbo B if you were... I would go on but he might attack, and I wouldn't like that...

Oxygen restriction on 'en tact' captures that slightly breathless enthusastic talking while tripping thing so well...

Carter USM. Idiots with shit puns.

I had a few early Carter USM singles signed (as I was a roadie for sussex university ents committee once) ... a couple of years ago I sent an email to their fan club asking how much are they worth, and got a hugely angry email from fruitbat (who is running the club) saying how dare I sell the records, didn't I like them, and that it represented the best years of his life?

It seems slightly egoistic and sad to end up running your own fan club

And what sort of grown man calls himself 'fruitbat'.

Dubstar.

Sixth form poetry dressed up as a poor mans St Etienne, who are a poor enough band as it is.

And by Christ, she just couldn't sing.

She's now in an electroclash outfit called Client with some other lass, wears tight leather skirts and together they sound pretty good.

There is hope.

he doesn't, really, he calls himself Les. And he's a really nice bloke :)

oh perhaps he was being ironic... it was during a particuarly dark time in my life where the humour had been sucked from my life like marrow from the bones from a bon viveur's plate

Only seen/heard The Manic Street Preachers one time. A Glasto clip.

My flatmate asked me if I'd eaten a bad whelk.

I saw The Manics when they were full on fake fur, eye make up, 3 chord actioneers

and they were brilliant live... motown junk is a fine record

yep, I couldn't get out of seeing them as I was serving behind the venue bar at the time.

Oi! I quite liked them and they've moved on to Country now anyway.

They're playing Offline soon.

THE BLAZING ZOOS
A "bracingly bitter five-piece country band from London" featuring former Jesus Jones frontman Mike Edwards, this hot exciting new alt.country band are sure to crank the 'Yee-hi!' count to eleven.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik - and any band that creates a buzz in the capital, aided and supported by bored members of the music press, and is then foisted on the rest of the country.

Fuck 'em. And fuck you for falling for it.

omg... how could I forget to mention:

the cult
the cure

shite the pair of them.
The Cult are immortal for the genius that is Love Removal Macheeayne. The Cure have much to answer for but Boys Don't Cry and Just Like Heaven are slices of pop brilliance.
