Definitely agree about M people and lighthouse family, tossers, also add in simply red and beautiful south. on the indie front:
1. Ash. Utterly mundane bog-standard Bull and Gate fodder, how did they get so huge (for a while)? I saw them at the underworld in about october 94, supporting drive like jehu, and thought they were another mediocre support act... would never have guessed they would have done so well.
2. Oasis. Honestly. Again, remember hearing their first single or so on the evening session and thinking it really was nothing all taht special, just average indie-pub-rock type stuff.

I remember reading about them in the NME and they described the band as like "The Stone Roses go to Goa" and I got really excited, thinking it was going to be a Madchester-God Machine-trancey mashup. Boy was I disappointed when I bought their single and it was a load of pub rock toss.

The fuckers played a gig in St Ives when i lived in Cornwall, we all travelled across to see the NME's latest cool new band, paid our £5 entrance.
Huggy Bear came on, played for 15 minutes, making an awful racket before saying that we didn't understand what they were trying to do and they walked off. Arseholes.
