Forthcoming Wakefield by-election after Imran Amhad Kan found guilty

I’m home, living in W Yorks again. Yvette Cooper is my mp, not Khan, but Wakefield is the nearest city and we’re under Wakefield councils jurisdiction.

Since this kicked off, I’m being utterly bombarded online, by ads from The Reclaim Party.

Similar to UKIP bollocks that was targetted at pensioners, but packaged for Yorkshire, mining nostalgia / Gods Own Country .

And oh look they’ve snuk a Yorkshire Rose into the logo. 🤦🏼‍♀️
So I agree with other comments, (especially because of this sort of bullshit) Labour will win but not with a big majority. Sigh.

Translation: head office have offered me a peerage if I stand out of the way to let some anodyne centrist gonk in a suit from down south scrape home.
She's already won the seat 4 times it's potty not trying to persuade her to stand again.

Guardian comment piece. Mainly about the Crispin defence and how little has improved since Saville.

Blunt was condemned by some of the other MPs on the parliamentary group, who resigned in protest at his statement. Where, though, was the statement from the prime minister, condemning Blunt’s words and making clear that it is never, ever acceptable for someone in a position of authority to minimise child sexual abuse? Where was the sanction from the Conservative party? Where is the investigation into why it has no record of the call Khan’s victim made to alert them that he had a decade earlier reported his sexual assault to the police?

That an MP can today engage in paedophile apologia with only the mildest consequences shows how very far Britain still is from learning the lessons of Jimmy Savile.

Wakefield can surely do better than Creagh who never saw a war she didn't like . Time to vote other than Labour though ( and no im not a Tory im a socialist )

Luckily there'll be a man with courage, strength and indefatigablity the good folk of Wakefield can vote for this time and if he doesn't tickle their fancy Inspector Morse's sidekick's sidekick.

It's probably not a bad idea from Labour's POV to get Ed Balls - the second most popular political figure in the country, after Kier Starmer (??) - back into parliament.

he's finally resigned from parliament. bye-election date tba.
allegedly the delay was so he'd get his full month's salary.
I suspect he'll get some kind of financial package as well, though not as much as if he'd brazened it out to the next election and gone then. The dirty fucking nonce.
