Football and coronavirus

Being able to watch live football would considerably enhance my days, although only if the players' health isn't going to be compromised in the name of profit. No idea if that's possible, mind

I'm hoping to tories extrapolate from their demand - that the richest footballers pay more cos they can afford it - to the rest of society.

dunno really

tories often manage a leap of logic here. bosses and hedge fund managers 'earning' loads of money - fine. inherited wealth - fine. relatively small number of top flight footballers from (mainly) working class backgrounds getting paid loads of money - how very dare they?

Live football - are they still playing in Belarus?

There are jolly decent footballers around; that magical Wilfred Zaha of the mighty Crystal Palace has offered about 50 of his properties free to NHS workers.

Seriously, it's the clubs in the lower leagues that are giving concern. How many more like Oldham surviving by a thread and possibly won't make it?

Wouldn’t any repayments be subject to the tv companies showing that they had suffered and incurred loss? They are still receiving payments fir sports subscriptions do their losses aren’t actually proportional to the part of the season that has been lost!

The only people getting rich out of this as usual are agents and lawyers!

"sex party" could mean a number of things

A report in the Sun said Walker and a friend paid £2,200 for Louise McNamara and a 24-year-old Brazilian woman to visit his home last Tuesday. It was reported the escorts left on Wednesday, the same day the City and England right-back used social media to urge the public to follow government guidelines on social distancing and protect the NHS by staying indoors.

There were signs that this angle was considered from the start, as part of helping people that love football cope.

I think they thought they would get at least a period of empty stadium matches after the first lockdown steps, but were then caught off guard, like so many others, by the fact the virus was widespread enough at that point that managers, staff and players would soon end up infected and the whole thing would grind to a halt. And even in the few days it took to for all that to happen, it was obvious that some players were uneasy with the situation and some spoke out.

Likely the same thoughts about trying to get back to being able to play matches for morale etc purposes, not to mention the finances including broadcasters finances, are still out there. I dont know how they will manage it but I guess like so many things its a question of timing. I wouldnt like to guess when it might be possible, only that there will be much pressure for it to happen, and that since I cannot predict much else about the medium term situation with this virus, this is another one to add to the wait and see pile.

Lawyers representing 151 clubs (below the Nationa Leagues) opposing the decision to make the season null & void have now written to the FA

Sorry, buggered up quotes and comments!

I saw that Wayne Rooney's name popped up in the news with Walker's, then, well, any connection? :hmm:[/QUOTE]

Manchester City Football Club have today announced the death of manager Pep Guardiola’s mother, who has died after contracting coronavirus.

They are all PAYE I think . There might possibly be some issues over tax on image rights but I really dont know. . For me the question is how best players can collectively assist during the corona virus epidemic rather than should they take a paycut. per se . Its an issue that seems only to apply to football and none of the other businesses.

The EPL position is mainly about loss of revenue since games were cancelled and potential huge loss of revenue if the season is null and voided especially when SKY/BT and the overseas broadcasters ask for their money back.

Both issues for the PFA and EPL are interlinked but they are not entirely the same.imo
