Fishing season 2020

Well it's the start of another season of fishing. The pleasure of sitting next to a beautiful river with a mate and a flask of gin and tonic cant be beaten in my opinion.

Whether I catch a fish or not I always have a good time.

Tomorrow is the inaugural first day for me. Off to Kingston on my e scooter with a seat rucksack, telescopic rods and very light tackle.

Scoot up the river bank to Hampton Court and fish the river Ember and maybe the river Mole. Maybe catch a Barbel. :)

I’m shielded at the moment but once that glorious day arrives!
My nephew is already planning our trips.
So just the license and tackle to sort.
One of my mates has been fishing over in Skegness all week and keeps sending me photos of his catches.

I'm shielded but am breaking out for this. Lots of distance on the riverbank... personal e scooter as transport. Click and collect for bait locally. I even bought a licence.

looking at a trip with pals to Uist in July if the CalMac ferries are operating for the public again. Wild camping in the wilderness, slabs of lager and silliness. someone maybe might catch a fish and put it back but fishing isn't about catching fish.

eta, no fishing on a sunday because jesus but we will find somwhere out of the way when jesus cannot see us

This has got me thinking. Here you have to take an exam to get a licence. I need to find where to do one.

I could always go tuna fishing which really appeals. Never caught one, yet.

Went for the first time in a few years the other evening. A nice evening tiddler bashing with step son and a socially distanced mate. Gonna join a local club that has a couple of nice lakes for some more evenings in the sun.

Tight lines and wet nets!

Took my step son this evening. He fished on the surface while I fished with my centre pin on the bottom. I had a small carps and he had a wee 7lber of the top. Good fun and good learning for him as he's been struggling to catch the last few times he's been. Have been talking about the basic skills and not just wanging baits out behind bite alarms

Kiss the fish!

Had a blank yesterday. Was a tale of the one that got away.

Tale of 2 sessions:

Headed down the canal this morning to chuck some lures hoping for an esox. 10 casts later my reel broke. Had travelled light as its a bit of a walk to the section I was fishing so it was pack up and head home time.

Decided I would swap tactics and grab the carp gear and head to the club lake. It's only 5 minutes drive away so was there and fishing in no time (rods already set up in my bag).

Fished for about 3 ½ hours and had not even had any indication I was going to catch and the people on the opposite bank hadn't caught either. Decided to move into the back of the wind, despite it being a warm SW breeze blowing into where I was.

Picked my new swim and likely looking spots, on the right, a tricky cast towards some reeds. 3 failed casts later I decided to cast the left rod, an easy underarm swing to some lilies. While I did I just left the right rod where ever it had ended up, not even sure where. Hadn't even put free spool on or turned the alarm up. Was just putting the bobbin on the left rod when the right bent round and I grabbed it. Fish on!

Gave a great fight, took out my other line, totally tangled around it and made it hard to land but eventually slipped the net under a nice Mirror. 11lb on the nose.

An eventful days fishing. Great to have a bend in the rod and a double under my belt for the first time since I've been back on the bank for years.

it looks quite surprised to see you

Taking grand-daughter to fish for bream (in the Yare). Never done anything much other than a spot of ledgering (tench) and a bit of mackerel off a boat. Used to catch pike in the Cam and often Zander out on the fen. Might get her doing a bit of spinning with her dad - always fun for kids. While most of the anglers I know are content to simply be out on the river, I am rather more keen to catch summat I can actually eat.
