This country is sick and frankly it can burn at this point.

I'm (optimistically) wondering if we might be looking at the final and terminal flounderings of a hopeless and impossible project, here...
But then I remember who we've got in charge, and how fucking appalling they are at looking out of the window to see which way the wind is blowing.
Your record on attempting to downplay British racism is exemplary, well done.Don't be stupid.
That says a few dickheads tried to block the lifeboat but were unsuccessful (how would they have know what the shout was for?) Other than that the people of Hastings have been welcoming and supportive.
He's done no such thing. Ludicrous statements like "the country can burn" makes everyone out to be shitty and racist, which even in Hastings is blatantly untrueYour record on attempting to downplay British racism is exemplary, well done.
Yes, a few people tried to block a lifeboat because the people it was going to save were non-British and these people would rather they die in the freezing sea. They are encouraged to act like this by the likes of Nigel Farage who endlessly appears on national media, television airwaves and print. Its a total disgrace. Artaxeres said "This country is sick". It is . Theres nothing "stupid" about that.
Carry on downplaying it all you like:: >>
I spent some time down in St Leonards. Sure, it has its fair share of dicks but what place doesn't? This reads like a political action by a small group of far right bellends, and I doubt it is representative of Hastings and St Leonards. Far be it from me to back up Spymaster (who could have won awards for the worst politics on urban), but I don't think he's downplaying anything here and Artaxerxes earlier comment was a massive over-reaction that does the cause of anti-racism no favours.Your record on attempting to downplay British racism is exemplary, well done.

It was one man being a racist fuckwit:
Paul Joy, chairman of the Hastings Fishermen’s Protection Society, said the abuse had nothing to do with Hastings fishermen. He said the lifeboat decided to launch on the east side of the harbour arm - rather than the west side where it normally launches - and found a fishing boat was already there. This escalated into a “row”, but he said this had nothing to do with refugees being rescued in the Channel - it was the way the lifeboat crew spoke to the fisherman involved. He said there was a lorry driver on the beach who “had words about immigrants” to the lifeboat crew, but nothing was said about refugees by the fisherman.

Something went down for it require Police attendence. And HE wasn't blocking the launch.
You'd have to be a special kind of cunt to impede an emergency service shout to deliberately cause deaths. Even most fash would stop short of that, if only because it's an extremely serious offence that could see you doing proper time. And as I said at the time, people on the beach wouldn't know if the lifeboat was attending a refugee emergency or a local fishing boat, so the whole thing was immediately smelly.

The two survivors from the incident last Wednesday claim those onboard made repeated calls to the British and French authorities as their flimsy dinghy began to sink.
According to one of the survivors, the British responded by telling them to get in touch with the French.
According to the second survivor, Muhammad Ibrahim, those onboard made several frantic attempts to raise the alarm. The boat began to sink three-and-a-half hours into the crossing, he told Rudaw, with the occupants debating whether to press on or turn back.
“The right side of the boat was losing air. Some people were pumping air into it and others were bailing the water from the boat,” Ibrahim, 21, told Rudaw, speaking from hospital in Calais, where he was recovering from hypothermia. “Then after a bit, we called the French police and said: ‘Help us, our pump stopped working.’”
“Then [we] sent [our] location to the French police and they said: ‘You’re in British waters.’ So we called Britain. They said call the French police,” Ibrahim claimed. “Two people were calling – one was calling France and the other was calling Britain.” The calls were made in English, he confirmed.
Hadn't seen the footage. Watch: Footage emerges of protesters blocking lifeboat heading out to rescue migrantsA single copper. And no arrests were made.
Sounds like handbags between the fisherman and a lifeboatman who shouted at him to get out of the way.
I didn't say it represents Hastings, it represents official government policy. It represents the action of the coastguard in refusing the sos call. It represents the popular media calls to act this way.I spent some time down in St Leonards. Sure, it has its fair share of dicks but what place doesn't? These acts certainly represent something very dark within society and are dismissed at our peril.I didn't say it represents Hastings, it represents official government policy. It represents the action of the coastguard in refusing the sos call. It represents the popular media calls to act this way.

It does look like that's exactly what happened, even if the delay was virtually nothing. You said the boat was intentionally stopped from launching by people who wanted the refugees to drown in the freezing sea. It wasn't.
How does it?It does look like that's exactly what happened, even if the delay was virtually nothing.
I've seen the video of the incident. It's on this thread somewhere, isn't it?How does it?
Do you have some new information?
