England @ Euro 2016

"One of the few occasions when you wish the cops would go in harder." Really? When we don't really know the full story yet? Come on, mate. Like me, you've been in aggressive situations that have been reported incorrectly before. Give it a bit to let the dust settle, eh?

Initial post was written when the first trouble flared - when it was the usual EDLesque nobbers gathered en-masse to regale the locals with "Fuck off Europe-We're voting out" "2 world wars.." etc and generally inviting all and sundry to come and have a go if your hard enough whilst punching out the odd waiter. And they got the reaction they asked for - but so did all the other non-twat england fans.

"Paul McCartney will play drums, because there's no-one else in the band who comes up to that level of striking a drum"

Quite. And Kyle's perfectly capable of hitting a decent corner.

From the Graun:
Uefa has expressed its “utter disgust” and opened disciplinary proceedings against Russia for crowd disturbances, racist behaviour by fans and fireworks being set off during the European Championship game against England on Saturday. Uefa has not opened any case against the English Football Association.
So, can we expect to see some contrite backpedaling from a number of posters for their comments now? I'll not hold my breath.

If he's on the pitch Wilshere can take them too, as I think he's the only attacker in the squad with a half decent left peg. It adds a bit of variance.

If they proceed with the 4-3-3 I really think he ought to play on the left of the front of the three, because it was so evident that Sterling was unwilling to get to the byline and put the ball in with his left.

They came at me from every direction. I was trying to get away but the next thing I was on the floor. They must have kicked me on the floor because I’ve got broken ribs. It looked like they were very organised. I was taken to hospital. I woke up in the ambulance, covered in blood.

“My trainers were stolen, £100 in my wallet and an iPhone 6. If that’s the way they get their kicks then fair enough.”

Richard Wakefield, 40, from York, travelled to Marseille with his friend Chris Snowdon, 39, from Fleet, Hampshire. Wakefield said they would not now attend an upcoming Russia game for which they have tickets. “We were walking to the ground minding our own business when the Russians attacked,” he said. “There was a big group of them. They came running at us and were kicking and hitting people.

“I got a smack round the head and have a cut eye. I lost my phone after being knocked down.I couldn’t get in touch with Chris. I went into the ground but left at half-time because I was bleeding and shaken.

maybe this is how a number of the Russians could afford to go to Marseille

Is there any evidence (video?) to support this claim of them singing Fuck off europe? I've yet to see anything worse than God save the Queen. It's like there are loads of people in the comments sections of youtube and newspapers trying to justify the english fans being attacked.

Or... don't play Sterling.

Wilshere? Vardy? I dunno. Fuck it, I'd rather see DR3 at LW and Bertrand starting than watch more of Sterling running very fast without a clue what to do next.

I thought Vardy would get a chance yesterday purely on current form and because he has just achieved something special. I agree with you in Regards to Bertram and Sterling.

The French hoolies are also being accused of attacking the Polish and Irish fans last night.
My friend who was in Marseille has traveled to Nice for the NI PL game and he has been told by NI fans that NI and PL supporters were all getting on well drinking together and it was the French who came out starting trouble

I was told and have read the same.I believe it was the "ultras" from Nice fc who turned up.

Oh come on - the hardcore ingerland goons with their EDL banter and loyalist songs? Im sure they were all sitting around sipping lemonade and singing barbershop. And they have absolutely no trackrecord for being drunken aggro cunts either. Oh no - not at all.

You're making it up for want of proof. Ireland fans have also been attacked by Nice ultras of what looks like algerian background. Do you think they were asking for it, too?

I live in krakow and there is an English pub that is rammed every weekend with English and Scottish people carrying on like the videos of the English in Marseille before the trouble, they are being loud and once they are pissed they end up shouting and being rude, but they really don't seem to be a problem, they go around the bars drinking and because it's much cheaper for them they usually end up in a mess somewhere.
But they do not ever kick off or terrorize the locals, they've saved up for this and they end up in strip bars if the drinking is not enough

It's fair dos to call them daft for going abroad and going to a pub and drinking all day, and Marseille is a city I would not like to be an obvious foreigner in, but the Marseille fans, and the Russia fans seemed to be gangs, and the police were pathetic.

It's going to ruin the tournament, English hooligans are pretty low down the list nowadays,

Reasonably balanced sounding report:

Proper - non-Narnia- Ireland fans won the award for best fans at the last Euros Despite having the shittest team in the tournament . There's over 100,000 making the trip this year. I hope previous high standards are adhered to .

4 nil down to Spain at the time

Whatever went on in the Old Port over the last couple of days, there's no excuse for letting bombs and flares off and attacking scarfers in a stadium.

Also, does anyone else think that the French 'lost' to the Nazis a bit too easily?

Yes . Many leftists at the time believed the French elites were much more afraid of the communists than the nazis, with the popular front at the time being very strong . And let the nazis walk in to sort them out in the manner they would have liked to but couldn't . in return they got to keep their empire and all that .
