Euro 2016: England v Wales, Thurs 16th June

I'd always wondered what the point of England fans singing GSTQ was... turns out it's to wind up Welshmen with an irration obsession about the legitimacy of national anthems
Except they song it at every game, so there you goes your daft point, straight in the dustbin.

being where? left behind the line offside? its hardly genius

looked to me like he ran in for the cross, didnt connect and ended up offside but luckily found himself just where a random ball pinged towards him off a miss hit welsh header....
He was very lucky as he clearly had no idea that it would be a Welsh noggin that would connect with the ball and gift him the ball. But he was there and he scored and that's what he's supposed to do.

Hmmm. A tense and gripping game rather then any high quality. Wales defended well but offered very little going forward and virtually nothing in the second half. If that Bale free kick hadn't gone in I don't think may people would have complained about an England win but as it is it does seem a bit harsh.

England had all the possession but created so few chances, its really disappointing that given the attacking nature of the squad we are really struggling to break sides down which is a massive problem given our defence is proving as frail as expected. On that subject our defending is so nervous its even spread to the keeper and how may times do we need Rose to get isolated at the back post before we do something about it?

I think Wales should get a result against Russia. I this Russia are very poor and had England shown any ambition they would have beaten them comfortably. Wales just need to get some players around Bale, not hack it long to him. I reckon its going to be a England & Wales top two in the group.

Something rarely said but I thought the game was played in the right spirit and the officials had a good game. The ball hit Welsh hands in the box a couple of times but neither was a penalty and spotting that Vardy's goal had come off a Welsh head was high quality officiating. Also not a dive at the end he clearly tried to go shoulder to shoulder with Smalling except Smalling wasn't there so he just fell over.

I dont really buy in to this short termism over which striker is good or not.
Vardy's goal was a lucky goalhanging tap in in an offside position (i know it wasnt actually offside as it came off a welsh player) that any defender could have scored - the commentators talking up of it was a joke
Sturridge did work hard but got a bit lucky too. Kane hasnt had a great couple of games but its pointless to find deeper patterns and meanings from that.
IMO
I'd say its more to do with the oppo. We've dominated both games and been fairly high up the field, where the box was fairly dense. Vardy can adapt to that by sneaking about. Kane likes a bit more space.
I reckon in the knock out rounds, against better opposition, where the game opens up a bit more we could still see a Vardy & Kane pairing up front.
One things for sure. Sterling shouldn't get another start. He was useless. Totally off the pace.

agree 100% with that bit (cant comment on Sterling) - my impresson of Sturridge over the games Ive seen him play in is hes generally good in a rammed box too - happy to run in and take people on. Kane will get space against better teams that dont park the bus

Scoring tap ins is a skill as well, if it wasn't then everyone would be scoring tap ins all the time.

Its ridiculous to call him 'lucky' when he's been lucky for the whole season and then he's brought on and 'gets lucky' yet again

agree to a point sky
anyhow, my point was no need to draw big conclusions on who is a good striker or works in the team

Meh. All good goal scorers are lucky its not bad thing.

All 3 goals had a large slice of luck when you look at it.

You're right, they sing it every game. Like the England vs Russia game where Dandred contributed over half a dozen posts on the topic during the game, impressing us all with his expertise of the topic, in his own unique manner.
It's like an Englishman arguing with himself on the Wales vs Russia thread, that Bread of Heaven is irrelevant because Wales has no intrinsic culture of loaf baking.

Hats off to plucky little Wales, they certainly gave England a fright. I especially enjoyed the one or two times they got out of their own half, exciting stuff. Hopefully their fans are enjoying this once-a-century experience as well

If we end up level on points, do they use passion and who's got the best national anthem as tie breakers? Let's hope not eh :(

They deserve to go through to the next round and I think they will. Gonna be difficult to watch two games at the same time on monday, both England and Wales are playing.

Wales have got Russia, so here's hoping all the Welsh fans stay safe.

pob lwc!!!

what you do is open two browser windows and have them side by side on your computer. but best turn the sound down.

Looking back I can say that was the best I've ever seen Wales play. We could have beaten Russia - RUSSIA! - five or six nil on the night.

But instead the englund fans are upset as they presumed and expected engerlund to be top of group and now spitting feathers about it!
