Donald Trump the road that might not lead to the White House - Redux 2024 thread.

and the origin of the pets story was indeed just a lost cat

The woman whose social media post helped ignite false claims of pets being eaten in Springfield, Ohio, said Friday the post was based on a rumor and that she feels remorse for the Haitian immigrants.

Erika Lee, a Springfield resident, recently authored a post on Facebook, saying that her neighbor’s cat was lost and she was told it was because the pet was attacked by a Haitian immigrant.

Kimberly Newton, Lee’s neighbor, acknowledged this week to NewsGuard, “I don’t actually know the person who lost the cat.” Newton added that the cat’s owner was “an acquaintance of a friend.”

Meanwhile there have been bomb threats there, and inflammatory KKK leaflets - you know who peoples' friends are.

clinton won the national vote - the polls were right - but trump won the electoral college - cos in built pro-republican bias
Yes, Clinton won the popular vote but the popular vote means fuck-all over there. Expanding your margin for victory in somewhere like California is meaningless in a system where 'dirt votes'. If turnout for the candidate is depressed in marginal areas for whatever reasons then, despite a popular majority, the unpopular guy wins. The EC has come to the rescue of Republicans for the past 30-odd years thanks to that weird anti-democratic quirk in "The World's Oldest Democracy (TM)". Trump's margin for victory in '16 came down to something like a couple of votes here and there in each district of the swing states -and that was largely due to the enthusiasm factor. Tons of republicans wanted trump in and their turnout went up. On the other hand, not enough dems were enthusiastic about voting for clinton plus a significant number of sanders voters throwing a power sulk in those key areas helped to hand trump the keys to the white house. Me saying 'complacent' was a flippant umbrella term for a variety of factors (including a degree of complacency on the part of some) that helped win trump the '16 election.

Hopefully a combination of trump alienating more potential voters by acting even more egregiously and erratically between now and November and the dems keeping the momentum and enthusiasm going will help keep trump away from a 2nd term. The fact that the race is a toss up even at this point is still utterly baffling to me.

I'm sure her apologia and feelings of guilt will soften the blow of the racist threats the haitian community are now suffering as a result of her credulous idiocy.

I wonder how much Gaza is going to impact the vote in places like Michigan, where there is a big Palestinian community and a lot of anger at Biden for being so pro Israel. No way are they gonna go for Trump, but some people will end up staying at home I imagine.

Dr Cornel West is also standing as an Independent and although his name seems to have been removed from some state ballot papers, it will be on Michigan's:

my youtube has been flooded today with ads from both trump and harris.

trump opened with "the billionaire liberals who hate our country" - despite that he claims to be a billionaire who ran from military service when his time came.

harris opened with "when i debated trump" - not "president trump" or "donald trump" - prefect pitch on her part (or her handlers').
