Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

"Maybe read this before you post any more nonsense." How is that not a recommendation? I appreciate we're going to differ about questions like how to define gender but I didn't think we were going to have this much trouble with the word "recommendation".

PTK's comment suggested that the EO was benign and pointless.

I linked him to an article showing that it's anything but. He now seems to appreciate that.

Get it?

OMG! The gaslighting is beyond. Some twat on C4 News saying Trump said he wished he could have a better relationship with the Dems, and that there will be going forward! Did he watch the same crap we did where the turd attacked Biden and the Dems gracelessly in his speech? Unbelievable.

Aye, the Trumper saying it was nice to have a civilised handover, like it should be done. Trump being a sore loser is the only reason the last handover wasn't civilised. Surprised he was allowed to get away with that comment!

There’s been a handy list of the stuff he’s going to announce today on most news platforms. It comes with the advantage that you don’t have to hear him waffling on about it.

I tuned into the R4 coverage to hear the speech. I wanted to listen to his voice, where he was simply reading the autocue and when he did his editorial asides (for instance, when he likes what he’s reading/saying he’ll reiterate it by repeating it “America will be great again really great, greater than it’s ever been before…[back to autocue]”. I wanted to hear when the crowd gave raucous applause, or not (there were a couple of places they seemed hesitant, not because they didn't like it, but - I think - because it wasn’t high on their own agenda). Hearing it from the horses mouth, as it were, in real time. I wanted my own reaction to be to the moment, not to a report. I confess I was left literally open mouthed a few times.

It may not be “a moment in history” but it has become part of my own history: I listened in real time and reacted in real time.

Having said that, there’s no fucking way I was going to sit through the whole carnival show, and I say that as someone who had the Queen’s funeral on in the background while it was happening (not the coronation though. I reckon I had a passing interest in the funeral because, as a Londoner, The Queen’s Queue and the sea of flowers and the roads being closed had a direct and first hand impact on my life).

I was / am always interested to see/hear America The Beautiful being sing at the inauguration: it seems to me that it often works as a kind of comment on the whole affair. It’s designed to be emotive, and I wanted to see what aspect of that is being underlined or highlighted.

It is what is now.

Is there mileage in a 'trump's new administration legislation'* type thread? I'd be into a thread documenting/discussing the politics; leaving this one for chat about what a mad orange bastard he is and who he's hanging out with etc etc etc etc

*needs work

Oh my god yes, we really need this. Even if it’s comparatively quiet, we really need a discussion thread.

Imo this doesnt help in knowing your enemy... The theatre makes it harder to see the reality.... It's a distraction and a manipulation of perception... Imo

But let us know if he drops dead or something

I think, in this instance, the theatre is part of the reality… they’re working harder than ever to keep people hoodwinked. At least some of the EOs announced today are there to assuage MAGA that they’re right and Trump is the saviour. He’ll (and by he I mean the team fronted by Trump…. don’t think this old man is really capable of walking back into the WH unaccompanied and unsupported…) He’ll smuggle plenty of other shit through under guise of this firewall of grifty gifts.

Not one mention of allies, other nations, friends. He’s gonna go after NATO one way or another, and increase American isolationism. Stating that the military should be free to “do their real job of defeating America’s enemies”, not defending America, defeating the enemies. He wants to be a “peacemaker and avoid all wars” .He’ll use that as the reason to pull back and retreat from any involvement anywhere, including any foreign aid.

And he’ll us the LA fires as a reason to withdraw aid elsewhere and use it domestically. He’ll say it’s hypocritical and counterproductive to help anywhere else while his own people are suffering. Meanwhile he’ll be brokering deals under the table to buy land out there, topple land rights, dismantle building restrictions, and build his own toytown structures. His experience using building trades and developments to feather his own nest won’t go untapped when LA is rebuilt.

You linked to an article that was very clearly supportive of his agenda on this issue, and I'd say portrayed the EO as being far more benign that it actually is. If we actually agree that the order is malignant, then I'm glad, but I'd appreciate you explaining a bit more about why you see it as being malignant and harmful.
Oh shut up, you fucking tool.
:D Can't blame you here, if I were you I'd probably be too embarrassed to make an actual argument too. But just so we're clear on this, you said it "clearly points out the problem with the EO". From my reading of that article, it seems like the major criticism it offers is that it doesn't go far enough, rather than any of the more glaring flaws with the whole proposal. Am I right in thinking that's what you meant?
you're misreading Spy here, look again from

I mean, if I am misreading, that'd be great. But I think the combination of him describing it as "kicking gender ideology into touch", and choosing that particular article to link to, illustrate that he is actually a fan of this stuff.
