Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

My preference is for journalists to tell me what's actually been said, and then to draw my own conclusions about what they probably meant really.

If you want what Trump actually said, you can just read his Truth Social posts. That report included his post, along with what a Sierra Club spokesperson actually said, which is where "bribe their way" - which was in quotes in the headline - came from

"Corporate polluters cannot bribe their way to endangering our communities and our clean air and water," Mahyar Sorour of Sierra Club said in a statement. "Donald Trump's plan to sell out to the highest bidder confirms what we've long known about him: He's happy to sacrifice the wellbeing of American communities for the benefit of his Big Oil campaign donors." "We will keep fighting to defend our bedrock environmental protections and ensure they apply to everyone, not just those who can't afford Trump's bribe," Sorour added.

That's right. I read the Truth Social post because soon after starting to read the article I sensed that it was unreliable.

If Trump had said that billionaires would be allowed to bypass regulations then the headline would have been fair enough. But that's not what he said.

Trump said one thing, a critic interpreted it in a particular way, and the headline was written to include the critic's words in such a way as to mislead the reader about what Trump actually said.

But actually it's wrse than that - there's the headline, then there's the quote put in large bold text under the headline, and then there's the first paragraph of the text itself which doesn't even hide behind quotes - it directly states that Trump's proposal was to let people "bypass regulations". That's just factually incorrect.

Disappointing that people are happy to accept this kind of nonsense having made such a fuss about those videos with clickbaity thumbnails.

The good old days of pentium 150s and 14 inch monitors...then the communists came and took them away...and now we're forced to swipe and tiktok and everything else
Do not knock it, it works.

I had at ATE system in the 1990s in the British army the tiny plasma display was rated to a silly number of gs being dropped or in an RTC despite the (stupidly expensive transit casing ). I pointed out that they could by five better monitors in normal casing for less than one of these. But, they spluttered, what transit costs... probably less than the admin idiocy to ship it! it was a frustrating conversation.

what did Trump actually say?

Eta: and Trump does seem to say things that can be taken one way that sounds perfectly reasonable but after he's done whatever it is would allow him to say "well I told you I was going to do that".

"Any person or company investing ONE BILLION DOLLARS, OR MORE, in the United States of America, will receive fully expedited approvals and permits, including, but in no way limited to, all Environmental approvals. GET READY TO ROCK!!!"

So "will receive fully expedited approvals and permits" rather than "may receive fully expedited approvals and permits". Seems clear

An expedited process is not the same as bypassing regulation, you just skip the queue to get a decision.

He will probably also tear up a lot of regulation, but that is separate thing and not what this tweet was saying.

And in who's company accounts does this money need to be lodged!!!

Most urban75 posters think that making this distinction is "just semantics".

They would probably fit in well, within the Trump administration.

Doesn't matter what Trump said or didn't say.

He's a colossal liar and will say whatever happens to suit him at any given moment and will then deny or retract it later.

It matters not one jot whether is was recorded or whether it was put in writing, he will still deny it.

We might as well close the thread. No point trying to keep track of what he has or hasn't actually said or done. All news is fake news.
