Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

That would technically be impossible as he is now dust.

They opened his casket in 1901, and he looked really good. They embalmed the crap out of him for a two-week tour after he died, and they think that it fully mummified his body. His skin was described as "bronzed" and his clothing was moldy, but intact.

There's been a number of attempts to steal his body. One plot was to steal his body and hold it for $200,000 ransom.

They could have had "lincoln's tomb" as a tourist attraction like lenin's in the soviet union. :hmm:

A bit like Eva Peron, whose body was stolen a number of times I believe. Creepy shit.

All joking aside, am much more worried this time round.

Hoping you are ok over the next four years.

I admit to being worried, not just for myself, but for all the people I know that Trump and his ilk hates. All of his appointees are scary. Most of them aren't qualified and were chosen because they're loyal to Trump. Many of them have suggested actions that plainly violate the Constitution and certainly violate basic human rights. One of the worst is Tom Homan. He's the guy who proposed the policy that separated families coming across the border. Some of them still haven't been reunited. He will be the new head of ICE. Here's a get-together with the Gov. of Texas on Thanksgiving. In it he says that he'll prosecute anyone who stands in his way, that includes the mayors of sanctuary cities and regular people who try to hide immigrants.

I blame Obama for some of this. He put this douche in charge of removals during his administration. The first thing he's going to do is put the family separation policy back in place.

Unfortunately, video unavailable here, but I have seen a couple of his speeches and they are quite terrifying.

Sure, those of us who don't live in the US can sometimes josh about the second Trump administration, but when it all becomes a reality - it's going to be a nightmare for these families.

The whole speech is chilling. It's going to be a nightmare. The rule of law will be done and over with once Trump takes office.

I've never been so scared and everyone around me is cheering it on.

What do you say to those who think that the fear is exaggerated and he's just another crap leader who's not going to achieve anything?

(I share the same fears as you do, just to clarify)

I've heard this "he was in office four years, and everyone survived." Except they didn't 1.2 million people died from Covid. He's taking the exact same steps as Hitler did when he assumed power. Once in, he'll consolidate power even more and go after anyone who dares to balk him. Why would he take all those steps and then not take the next?

I had the weirdest thing happen at the library yesterday. I had an older man come in and request a copy of Mein Kampf. We didn't have one in our collection, so I put in an inter-library loan request. When I suggested some other titles, he was adamant that he wanted Mein Kampf. He offered to buy us several copies "because it's such an important book." I'm pretty sure he isn't a history buff.

A fellow librarian? Well, I'm a former one. Kudos to all librarians out there.

If he does buy it, do what a colleague of mine used to do with copies of a former MPs crappy novels. They would somehow fall out of his hands when replacing, and get kicked around a bit, accidentally of course :hmm:.

There's lots of librarians on Urban.

We usually just say "no" to all such offers.

Yes, that's a tricky one though. You can just hear the maga lunatics crying and screaming about "free speech", and "censorship" if refused, forgetting that they are purging libraries and schools across the country of any books they don't like. You would probably get some nuts protesting in your library, like they did with the drag story times. If every offer is refused though, they don't have a leg to stand on. I once had the pleasure of telling a local councillor that we could not accept stuff from him, (he was a nasty right wing bigot), when he was attempting to bribe the constituents in the area just prior to an election. He was not happy :).

Its a policy that applies to everyone regardless of their point of view. We just don't have the capacity of vette every book someone wants to donate.

Kash Patel wants to tear down the "deep state" by replacing the FBI with a new FBI who will come after trump's enemies in politics and the media. Sweet.

I see Trump is having a meltdown about Biden pardoning his son. Erm, didn't Trump pardon his daughter's father in law? Something about fraud and trying to blackmail someone by setting them up with a prostitute? 🤔

Pardoned him, and has now chosen him for his ambassador to France - bit silly for Trump to be squealing about a Biden pardon when his final days in office last time around involved dozens of very dodgy pardons, and he's said he plans to pardon all the Capitol riot psychos the first chance he gets
