moody basically you have 2 sets of speakers that are designed to do the same job. One set is bigger than the other, that's the only real difference.

A sub does a totally different job and fills in all the bottom end stuff that standard full range speakers can't.

You do have the basis of a kick ass surround system that just needs a centre speaker, sub and surround amp. Use the bookshelf speakers as rear surround. Your neighbours will never speak to you again.

bought these and a really nice teac amp today, just for listening to tunes through my computer like, was a bargain under £100

anyhow, as you can see, I have some king size blues acting as a micro-baffle to deflect any unwanted frequencies

I hope you have had them suitably electro-plated with silver.
And you need a teddy bear on that other speaker too.

Valhalla :D
Those little cable tips are handy though, I wonder if you can buy something similar for £2

Nope.
£5 for 4 banana plug ends

or if it was the spade plugs they are more expensive. you're about right on the price for these, they are £7.99 for 4: Y Spade Plug,Speaker Spade Connector,Fork Spade Plug 45: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

of course you could probably find some cheaper from CPC or some similar proper supplier or buying in larger quantities but for a home system you'd almost certainly only want 4 (or perhaps 8 if you are connecting at both the amp and speaker end with them).

Yes, £1.60 for 10x 4mm banana plugs.

I need something that will tip the speaker wire to neaten it up to go into these ports

i think banana plugs are too fat for that no?

Yeah, those won't take plugs. But they are specifically designed to take cable ends, so I am not sure what you're worrying about. If you were feeling REALLY picky, you could tin the wires, but you'd need to be careful doing that, because if you get too much solder on, they won't fit in the holes. Also, turning the end of the wire into a solid lump might result in some fracture problems in the bit of cable between the end of the tinning, and the beginning of the insulation. My (3-core mains flex) speaker cables are just twisted neatly, poked into the holes, and latched with the little tab. Job's a good 'un.

Obviously, if you do the tinning thing, then do make sure you're using unobtanium alloy solder with platinum crystals.

yeah this is where im at, but they inevitably end up all frayed and sticking out, and some speaker wire ive got is really thick and just wont go in the hole neatly, if at all

this does look tidy tbf
