DHFC Women's Team

I don't want to go out on a limb, but I'd imagine most of our players are more motivated by the prospect of playing in a side winning promotion than a day out at Wembley tbh.
It’s a friendly game against unknown opponents. Given that the Women’s FA Cup final was sold out long ago, any players would already have tickets. And as for a day out, the Women’s Cup final as more than just a day out it’s a celebration of how far women’s football has come. It’s a celebration of how open and welcoming the game is. Last year I found myself sharing a table and several anecdotes (not all football related!) with a number of West Ham players, as well as soon juicy gossip. Couldn’t imagine that happening at the men’s cup final.

The FA website has the fixture rearranged to 12 May, so it looks like we don't have to worry about finding that friendly opponent anymore.

Although of course, whatever happens at Dartford, we can't mathematically go up today whatever happens, so the game is not hugely significant from our point of view.

Even if Dartford lose, we'd need them to either drop points in their next game, or get one more point ourselves.

I'm very keen for us to go up after a game we're playing in, so personally would be quite content with a modest Dartford win.

Not a massive amount to report so far. The match is out on the community pitch as Dartford City Lionesses are using the main stadium for their match against Lewes.

Deleted my Twitter account after Musk etc and the few times I have been on the algorithm shows me things I don’t want to see.
How are you getting on without it? I deleted it this week for the same reasons, but it was my main way for keeping track of Hamlet stuff. Got threads instead, but that appears to be more of the same algorithm driven bollocks

How does this work? Dartford have two women's teams? Or just prefer to get the rental money from another club and are happy to punt their own women onto the side pitch?

The club is London City Lionesses, unless they've changed their name again, which was originally Millwall Lionesses before splitting from Millwall around a decade ago. I don't think they have any connection with Dartford FC, other than sharing the ground. I've no idea what sort of attendances they get, but presumably more than Dartford Women.

London City Lionesses still play under that name - I just call them DCL because it’s a bit absurd that they play in Dartford and drain attention from Dartford’s side (there were about 100 here, maybe another 20/30 have drifted in now the match next door has finished).

So, a summary of the last week- I think!

Monday: DHFCW v Crawley venue and time change from 1pm at Horley (not Crawley) to 3.15 pm at Three Bridges.

Thursday: DHFCW post a request on X for a friendly on 12 May to prepare for last game of the season on 19 May.

Friday: DHFCW v Crawley moved back to Horley (not Crawley) but still at 3.15.

Sunday am: DHFCW v Crawley off. Waterlogged pitch at Horley. (No information provided on the state of Three Bridges pitch)
Game rearranged for 12 May - no time or venue given. Any friendly planned for this date now redundant.

Sunday pm: Saltdean announce venue change for last game of season on 19 May. It will now be played at Newhaven FC. The quickest train appears to be 1 hr 45 min from Victoria with a change. The station is on the opposite side of the river to the ground. Parking is limited.

And the FA support women's football... allegedly!

Ah it’s just a bit of Pretend Peril that will make winning it all that little bit sweeter.

Getting to Saltdean would have meant catching a bus from Brighton, so I doubt it would have been any quicker to get to anyway. Newhaven has a 3G pitch, so this is probably a precaution to minimise the risk of any more wet weather, and the ground looks to be no more than 15 minutes walk from the station. Plus it's a ground tick for me!

The pyramid also contain New London Lionnesses and, of course, Millwall Lionnesses. It's all a bit "Judean People's Front".

The original Lionesses were a separate club playing at the likes of Fisher Athletic’s old ground in Surrey Docks before linking up with Millwall in the 1980s. Players included the infamous Pauline Cope, goalkeeper who famously lumped an Arsenal player with a teapot in the dressing room. She’s now gone full on conspiracy theorist, anti vaxxer & GC nut! The club retained its own independent board as a separate entity from the men’s club (for want of a better phrase) but when Millwall refused to invest more money in the team about five years ago, there was a very acrimonious split.

Personally I’m sticking with Twitter (sorry Elon but if you’re happy to let your users deadname me then I’ll deadname your toy). Yes I get a lot of shit, a lot of dog piles and frequent threats but it’s worth it just to see bigots melt into pools of seething gammon-flavoured froth just by the thought of me existing & enjoying my life.
