Detail your latest clothes and slap related purchases here #2

No - it's a UK 10/US 6 - :D

Nope, Uk sizes are just one size up from US sizes. I've seen a lot of confusion here about what that means. Perhaps we should make a sticky thread.

Again, it is only one size difference because we count our sizes off by two just as you do. Therefore US 6= UK 8, US 8= UK 10, and so on.

Clothing sizes seem pretty irrelevant half the time anyway these days which is a bit frustrating. Having a tape measure is really important if you plan on doing internets shopping.

This is true. Tried on a pair of size 18 jeans in Next yesterday which were too small  Tried on a pair the same size in New Look today and they're slightly too big :D Fucking annoying.

I bought the New Look ones anyway as they're ok with a belt. I think I'm a size 17 at the mo which is most annoying!

i also bought a purple vest top, a breton style stripy vest top, a pair of black ballet pump type things and a mossy green long cardie :)

Sizing constantly winds me up, I have a couple of pairs of size 8 jeans which are way too big and I have to wear a belt with, and a couple of pairs of size 10 or 12 which fit just right

That's the orthodoxy, but certainly my experience is that a UK 16, say, is more like an american 12 than an american 14. It's true of shoe sizes too - they don't seem to be directly equivalent. A uk 3 (euro 36) should be a US 5... but it's somewhere between a 5 and a 6 in my experience. which is weird, because lots of garments are made for worldwide supply.

as y'all would say: go figure...

tape measure is no help as the size charts are wildly different to reality anyway.

oh absolutely - especially with the cheaper brands. Primark don't seem to use fit models at all - they order container loads of what's sposed to be x size and it just goes straight out on the shop floor. at that price there's very little quality control beyond the absolutely necessary.

Well you'll need to tell Gap rather than me then, cos I was just repeating what's written on the label.

Although that dress being an 8 makes even less sense than it being a 10 (I'm a 12/14). :D

I know what you guys are saying, but in general, that is supposed to be the standard. Uk= Us + one size (counting by twos)

Where are you getting that info from? I have a bookmark here with clothing sizes printed on....it goes with the two size thing, and I've never heard the 'go up one size' definition as you say it. :)

These in Topshop:

I think they'd just sold out (inc on website) of the pair I was after and even though these are fairly plain and more than I'd usually pay for sandals (£42 - I'm a cheapskate for shoes), my God they are comfortable, lovely soft leather. And importantly for me, have a sole I can definitely get an extra layer of sole stuck on to make up for my shorter left leg - always tricky to find in sandals.

Also some cropped maternity leggings from New Look and a yellow cardigan for Esmé - she expressed a definite preference, saying 'No, I don't want this one' to the stripy/spotty pink and white one and 'Yes, yellow one' to the yellow one, both in Next. :D

OMG LOVE IT!!!!

It is totally fab. A bit on the pricey side but very well made and won't sag like cheap swimsuits - and won't be see-through either, hopefully! I love the bikinis as well but am worried that if you're not model proportions they can make you look a bit frumpy. :hmm: What thinks urban?

oh dear i might have to get me a red spotty suit  you reckon if i wore it as a top with jeans that would make it feel less exhorbitant pricewise? :hmm:

any idea how the sizing comes up ms t?

I intend to wear mine with shorts and stuff. I am also sick of cheap bikinis that lose their shape really quickly.

I am mostly a size 12 but a size 14 sometimes, especially in trousers so they said to get the bigger size. It fits fine and there's no dreaded "camel's toe". :D
