Why does Candace Owens do it ? Money and career opportunities. Here's an article about her at newsone.com ("news from a Black perspective") last September. It draws together a number of previous stories about her and IMO paints a fairly compelling picture of another middle class grifter who has applied her talents to "follow the money".
Most interesting in this context is the 2018 Buzzfeed story it linked to. This pointed out that before Trump was elected she was CEO of a now defunct website called degree180.com that, amongst other things, was both anti-conservative and anti-Trump. It ran this story for example.
Buzzfeed don't link to it, but remnants of the site can be found at archive.org. Here's a random page. Looking at it, the "upworthy" clickbait contrarian-lite style and attitude is exactly the sort of approach which can be readily applied to any political viewpoint from liberal to conservative depending on what is most profitable. As Owen's own conservative 'reinvention' illustrates.
The most hilarious aspect of this latest "twitter outrage" is that few people would even know about it if she hadn't issued what amounted to a press release to US conservative media. She was suspended for a few hours while Twitter insisted she removed this tweet.
This is of course the screenshot she herself supplied to the conservative Gateway Pundit site. She presumably didn't appeal the tweets removal and her account was duly unsuspended. It is now open for business again. And she has been able to generate lots of lovely self-publicity.
Does she have anything fascinating to say about the 5G and anti-vaxxer stuff which David Icke is propagating ? Not 5G as far as I can see at first glance but she is now able to serve up things like this again :

I think Jones's star has waned. You may well think the preper type are nuts, but there is some decorum in there. Even the bloke who turned up armed at that pizza place the CLinton's were supposed to be doing whatever in. He videoed his entire thing and was arrested like a lamb when he found nothing, still a frightening experience for the owner but probably stopped a lot more visits.. The preper type preps so they can endure in world that has broken down, and a bloke advocating cannibalism is the sort of thing they are preping against. I was watching a David Icke interview from a previous year and much of what he is saying is broadly similar to many anti-capitalist stances. Though it's dressed up in the apparatus of conspiracy he wasn't going on about the illuminati but more broadly about the power of the mega-rich. If he didn't stray into 5G lunacy there was some common ground there.

Eg zeitgeist took a real world issue - the inequities of capitalism - and real world grievances - the consequences of those inequities - which superficially might appear left wing or at least something where there could be common ground but actually it's a load of right wing antisemitic bollocks
