Cycling (Road Race and Time Trial)

Jesus Christ, David Bond, BBC News has just given a completely inanane summary of the race.. not sure what he was watching. Showed a techy interview with Cavendish 'Stop asking stupid questions.. do you know about cycling?'

Cavendish probably had a point based on this news item.

Apparently xrays show no break for Spartacus. Will decide in the next couple of days if he will ride the TT. I may have to change my fantasy team...

After Cav was found to be not good enough on the day and with team GB having no plan B, can the girls win Gold again on the road, Cooke won Gold four years ago but is she past her best ?, can Armitage step up to the plate ?, can Pooley cause a surprise she won Silver in the TT in the last Olympics, so we have got a breakaway specialist in Cooke who could go from a long way out, a sprinter in Armitage for a dash and a time trialist in Pooley who could go from mid distance.
I'm sure the girls will have a plan but they will also be flexible and play what's in front of them depending how the race unfolds.

Can you tell us how Cav was "found to be not good enough on the day" please?
Because he finished 29th.

The boys worked their socks off for Cav, when the breakaway went i'm sure most of the GB boys could have gone with it but they waited for Cav, who wasn't strong enough getting up the hill he was losing position every time they went up there and then he needed time to recover after each of the little climbs.
The GB boys shouldn't have put all their eggs in the Cav basket.

So the roads are closed again, nice not to have the constant hum of traffic outside. Heavy showers followed by hot sun, heavy grey clouds coming in. Will take a jacket and watch the women whizz past. Getting excited all again :)

Just been to Putney to watch the pack whizz past, with the brazilian out in front and one apparently GB rider trailing badly.

Now at my mother's having lunch and will head back for part 2 later, and watch the rest after the riders go past in a local church which had thrown its doors open and put a big screen up!

Wow. That was an amazing women's race, well done the crowd, the commentators (nbs here) and silver for GB! Amazing sprint at the end and so great to see all the country lanes turn into London streets...really brought home how far and how fast they raced.
