Critiquing Oasis

I don’t think there would be so much vitriol and criticism of Oasis if they hadn’t been so successful , if they disappeared after album number one I reckon it would have been remembered as a decent release . They suffer from a bit of snobbery I think , “ commercial success “ is still frowned on by most big music fans . I count myself amongst the culprits , I’m not suggesting they are memorable but they don’t really deserve quite so much hatred.
I don't get to hear much music of the plodding genre, so there's probably hundreds of plod rock bands that I've never heard that are just as shite. Sadly I have heard Oasis so they get more of my vitriol.

Ditto U2 Ditto Coldplay
Absolutely. I was the right age and loved the first album and bought the 2nd the day it came out. Went to Knebworth. For an impressionable teenager they were just a cool rock band with great songs. It was a moment. Then you move on as most people did. Haven't listened to much after that and now couldn't give a toss about either of them or their output - musically or otherwise.
You could write a thesis about why certain bands still sell out huge stadiums but ultimately there must be quite a lot of people who really like their music because most bands can't. And no I haven't seen them live since mid 90s.

I totally get why they come in for criticism but I think it’s because of their success as much as the actual music . I don’t think they are shite I just don’t appreciate their music . As music fans we tend to be overly precious about who we consider acceptable to admit liking .

And there is the answer , as music fans we tend to move on and find other , or better bands to obsess about whereas your average punter doesn’t . Continuing to buy the aforementioned Oasis , U2 , Coldplay releases just shows a bit of a lack of curiousity

It would help if whichever of the Gallagher brothers (Liam? Idfk, the cunt one) didn't keep popping up every 5 minutes since Oasis were formed to call all other bands shit and not like they were in his day, when drugs were drugs and no other band took drugs like they do or do today.

I liked their first LP but it soon became obvious that Noel Gallagher’s lyrics and his lumpen riff off tunes were complete gibberish - pseudo intellectual shite that meant nothing at all. He’s continued this crap with his current band. Embarrassing shit for thickos. I mean “Who built the Moon?” - fuck off potato head.
I'd love to know your listening choices as throwing some of those comments around leaves you open to claims of hypocrisy. Just admit it, you don't like the Gallaghers,

I don’t like their music at all - dreary meaningless noise (I realise I’ve just turned into my dad 🙂)

I don’t think they’re terrible really but I don’t think I’ve ever voluntarily listened to any of their albums all of the way through.

If you switch on a hoover, then get a cat and dog fighting and yelling at each other at the same time .. well, it's uncanny

They were the Last Rock Group, the end of the genre as both a creative force and a social catalyst - the last Last Gang in Town.

When I was writing that "social catalyst" earlier I did wonder if it was the right phrase. I think now it was - the dead genre did involve the focusing of charisma in ways that had social consequences. That's probably not making sense, but boldly I typed it anyway.

Most people who paint themselves into a corner don’t order more paint . Fair play to you .

the only social consequence i can think of is that it gave a lot of people pleasure and parka sales went up

rock may be dead but (death!) metal seems to be going strong .... music for the apocalypse
Always felt that the logical next step for Manchester after producing a ground breaking post punk and dance music scene was to have a group catapulting to fame on copying Beatles songs and Rutles tunes . Music for underage dads .
