Critiquing Oasis

Their last UK gigs were in Heaton park in 2009. I went, it was shit. Miles back, pissed it down, ropey sound, full of tossers

You can't do a week of back-to-back dates in the same park. I call bullshit.

e2a: Bullshit on the 'advert' posted earlier, not you seeing them in 2009. Nobody would lie about that to get kudos points would they?

I have no kudos points when it comes to music on urban as my posting history in this sub forum demonstrates

I didn't like them very much when they appeared. Most of the time, if you don't like a popular beat combo, and you ignore it, it will go away, like most other annoyances of life. They did, more or less, and now they're back. Such is life.

That sounds like a massive win, given the terribleness of The Verve and the fabness of Pulp.
I don't think I'd heard them at that point but I was blown away - lyrics, Jarvis' dance moves, the lot. Common People was about to be released and Different Class came out later that year.

Setlist:
  1. Babies
  2. Monday Morning
  3. Mile End
  4. Razzmatazz
  5. Underwear
  6. Acrylic Afternoons
  7. Do You Remember the First Time?
  8. Common People
Oasis were on excellent form; tight, fast (for them) loud and they were all in a good mood. It was their first arena show and first time playing Don't Look Back live, basically a greatest hits + b-sides set:
  1. Rock 'n' Roll Star
  2. Columbia
  3. Digsy's Dinner
  4. Some Might Say
  5. Shakermaker
  6. Live Forever
  7. Up in the Sky
  8. Acquiesce
  9. Headshrinker
  10. (It's Good) To Be Free
  11. Cigarettes & Alcohol
  12. Married With Children
  13. Take Me Away
  14. Don't Look Back in Anger
  15. Talk Tonight
  16. Whatever
  17. Slide Away
  18. Supersonic
  19. I Am the Walrus

The Guardian getting excited:

Fair amount of rose-tinted glasses going on there, but then I wasn't 15 in 1994.

I get the excitement some people are feeling, I was 13 in 1994. Oasis have gained a lot of new fans since they split.
So, if they are doing gigs? Tickets will be like gold dust. I did meet Noel Gallagher once in the 90's.
Off his head on God knows what, sees me wearing a Manchester United shirt? Looks like he wants to
take a swing at me. His then wife, dragged him off and mouthed "Sorry". Arrogant berk. Liam seems to
be alright if a little mad.

Early Oasis? Great. Later Oasis? Rock and Roll Cliche of a band.

That’s more or less all their good songs in one set. Them plus pulp would have been a great night

Not sure the Oasis youthful energy and swagger works as well when they’re 50 something and millionaires

You've got a good memory.

The problem with Oasis goes along the lines of bringing in coked up football loving piss heads into the rock scene.

One of the twats from Kasabian said it best when he said something on the lines of Rock music being music for the outsiders who were considered to be a bit weird () and that Oasis opened up the doors and made it cool for everyone.

I saw Liam Gallagher supporting the Rolling Stones in 2017/18... His stage presence and set was excellent..I think I enjoyed him more than the Stones.

On a related note to the sound engineer: it needs to be LOUD. Saw Blur at Wembley Stadium last year and it wasn't loud enough. Saw Oasis at Glastonbury in 2004 and it wasn't loud enough... Oasis need to be loud.
