Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

Dressmaking sizes, as a rule of thumb, tend to be one larger than readymade. The measurements for each size are given by the manufacturer of the pattern. BTW I think your size would count as "quite small" unless you're tall as well as slim.
definitely not tall :D I'm 5'5. thanks for the input :)

thank you! I'm a size 10/12 in the shops, but not sure about dressmaking sizes. I'll have a think :)
Sounds like you would be fine making a pencil skirt in the cotton fabric then. :)

Ignore your high street size, wrap a tape measure around yourself and buy a skirt pattern according to your hip measurement or a dress one according to your bust measurement. Most patterns these days are multi-sized (more than one size printed on the tissue) so you are unlikely to buy the wrong one.

Let us know how it goes!

thank you! I will :) I'm thinking of knocking up a little dress for the kiddo at the same time/first/at home too. matching fabrics maybe  :D

I read somewhere about someone making their own chalk paint by buying something chalky from a health food shop and adding it to normal paint.

The original stuff was glue (usually rabbit skin or "Scotch" glue), water, chalk powder and whichever earth pigment you could get your hands on.

each with custom fitted cutout kraft matchbox. max dimensions are about 5cm, approx 16 pages per side (plus same number of back pages equally visible)

these are spin-offs from my current exhibition work - making use of my samples - and hopefully saleable (alongside the exhibition piece - all copper/enamel - i have a weekend artists book fair in the same venue)

i'm *really* looking for opinions on pricing these pieces. me and mr b seem to have very different ideas. can post extra images/dimensions/material details. they're a decent hefty crease/resistant paper in an off white/cream, the longest width i have on hand (a1). covers are enamelled copper - each completely unique and taking several firing/finicking cycles. materials costs are on the high side.

would consider sending a free sample to someone i know/trust (full-on discrimination, sue me :p) for a hands-on review/educated opinion :)

Tie dye (marble & yarn resist) shirt and skirt, drying now.

Update: Mildly vexed, the skirt is okay, but there are several small tears in the shirt from the friction of some of the marbles. I've ordered some lightweight fusible interlining to stabilise that.

Anyone got any bright ideas on what I can do with my Dad's old curtains? Are they retro enough to be cool, or are they just tasteless? I was thinking of making them into bags, but I may have been watching too much 'Money for Nothing'.
