Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

I need help from you crafty folks.
I've been asked to make some earrings like these 1_a761c6c2-f804-4921-a9d4-a195a99ee544_800x.jpgloo roll.jpg
but I have no idea how to find anything to make the loo roll from. It's my sister-in-law that wants them so I won't charge her for them but I'm not keen on spending hours trying to make tiny loo rolls. Any ideas?

It looks like woven seed beads. It’s really easy to do (if you have the beads - do you?) with just needle and thread.
I’m happy to have a look and see if I’ve got some (and indeed make the bog roll if you give me the dimensions) but I’m worried about sending non-essentials by post - do you think it would be ok?

I could possibly find tiny beads. It depends on how small they go, the whole roll would need be 15mm across at most. I'll take a look. Someone tried to send me a book the other week and the post office refused to take it as non-essential. That's very good of you to offer to make the bog roll (because threading and assembling beads isn't my strength) but aren't you on another continent?

I have tiny white beads. They are about 2mm. I think that would allow for a double loop of bog roll, under 15mm and maybe 4 or 5 beads wide.
I’m in Canada, but the post offices are still open.
Up to you 🙂

That would be absolutely amazing. I would love it if you did that. I'll cover your costs obviously. They probably aren't your thing but if they are and you make a couple extra I'll make you a pair. I use sterling silver so your ears won't go black :)

hello crafty thread i've not made a thing in years prolly but enjoyed seeing yours

project drawstring uniform washbags from my random stash is making a verrrry creaky start.

i'm thinking that squared-off bottom corners is helpful for space for stuff to move in the wash? and an open fully-flat top for ease of loading (which i guess is why double-ended drawstring is part of the directions i've been given). anyone else doing similar or got any tips?

v slow sunday start prewashing (on) and finding my machine :hmm::D

The corner is nice but maybe not necessary wayward bob ? The idea is that you put the bag in the wash with your contaminated laundry in it, leave the top open and hope that the scrubs work their way out of the bag in the wash. Well so I have been told anyhow!

well my sewing machine is properly on its last legs :D

but i got 3 bags made up of pillowcases that i think are done, threads clipped. first is like the first pancake :D other two are serviceable if questionable in parts.

decent warm up :)

my mum has loaned me her (new, but v basic) machine for the duration - forward AND back, there's posh! i thought i'd figured a failsafe basic pattern for any piece of fabric, but i need to check dimensions, add a drawstring (from etsy, supporting small businesses) and look at it again with fresh eyes.

like the "i made a thing" meme, i can't see beyond the ways it's shit atm

heh those are some happy-making pics :)

i didn't get pics /postfail

but got a small batch of bags to the distributor today. 7 i think. functional and repurposing a pretty ikea print (clematis?) even if rough around the edges

i did a thing, start to finish. not done that in a while

Reminder to crafty types that there is another online craft club this evening from 8pm onwards. Let me know in some way if you want to come so I can send you the invite. (People who were in the previous conversation about it will get the link anyway.)

I finally made these earrings for my s-i-l
They look better on than off but this is the only photo I could manage. They look dull in the photo but they're not.
Thanks to etnea for doing the hard part and sending me two lengths of woven beads, all the way from Canada, for the loo roll.
S-i-l does themed dressing up so won't be wearing then for work. IMG_20200513_112751.jpg

Wore the full ensemble to the office today Boudicca (before heading out and seeing patients but they've seen them before) and the whole team wanted to know my source! Also some of my colleagues wanting to know if you know where the fabric is from specifically. Lots of peering and squinting and oh it's lovely so it must be from Nigeria :D

Completely perfect in this heat too. I've been wondering how I'll cope with work appropriate clothes in hot weather and these are the answer!

I don't remember where I bought it but I don't buy the expensive stuff, so it's probably made in China, like most cheap 'African' fabric. :D I chose that one from my stash as I thought it would suit you and it specifically said it was 100% cotton. It washed really well and is actually a quality drop of fabric.

Glad you are enjoying them!
