Coronavirus: Key Worker Travel Thread

I am a keyworker, so I am driving to and from work today.

I have my work photo ID, my driving license and my latest payslip in case I get pulled over for travelling. I have no idea what is required to justify my travel, and neither do the police. I heard on the Today programme appox. 1 hour ago that the fine for noncompliance is £30 so I'd like to prove my legitimacy in a layby rather than before the beak.

Sound sensible? What are your plans, fellow essential meatsacks?

I usually cycle and get the train to work, occasionally I get a lift or taxi if it's a late shift (NHS worker). Driving to and from work now for the forseeable, fuck being on public transport, for me and anyone I'm close to. Will carry my ID card (obviously) to get me out of jail if needed.

Not an essential worker here so sorry for jumping in, but would they pull you in a car? Surely driving is allowed anyway - know of people already going out for a drive

Currently I personally think that's highly unlikely unless for the usual reasons (drunk or fucked driving).

Driving isn't allowed anyway, people shouldn't be "going out for a drive". You can only drive for shopping, medical needs including helping vulnerable people, and commuting. The police could certainly do spot checks on drivers, as they are doing in other countries.

Where has this been said? Don't particularly like driving myself so won't be something I do, but plenty already are for a change of scenery and from a virus perspective driving alone in a car isn't risky

Totally. Jesus fucking christ, are people complete fucking idiots? It's quite clear they shouldn't just 'be going for a drive.'

FFS mate, it's not essential. It is risky. It's clearly not allowed.

"You should only leave the house for one of four reasons....These four reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home."

Don't go for a hoon about the country lanes for the lols.

That's the problem though, isn't it - loads of stuff that isn't risky from a virus-perspective, but A&E is filled up everyday with people involved in RTAs, DIY accidents, drunken antics - it's all the indirect shit that's the issue. And loads of people just don't seem to be getting it (that last bit not aimed at you).

Yeah fair doos I get that. Clocked my neighbour over road, must be in her late 60s, gets in her car and drives around estate a bit for 20 mins then comes home, imagine fair few people are, was thinking of scenarios like that but do understand implications. Feel for people though, fucked up isn't it

Out for a little drive. Oh shit bit low on fuel, I'll top up the petrol. Oh, I'm a bit peckish too, I'll grab a sandwich. Oh hi Bob, not seen you for a while, how's things, crazy times aye, especially with all these idiots not staying at home. Oh, I really need to the toilet, I'll pop into that cafe that's open.... etc.

I've got my work fob to take with me, emails from the company I work for in case I get stopped. I've had to message my boss as I finish work in the evening and the revised bus timetable means they are none to get me back so I'm hoping I can change my hours temporarily and walk there and back. Plus it'll save me precious pennies. Bugger knows how many people are actually in cos there's a lot of older staff and quite a few with medical conditions that would probably warrant a 12 week isolation.

I'm an essential drone, have been in the office so far (only six of us out of a team of over 30) getting systems and procedures set up so everyone else can work remotely. Now that's largely done I'm going to wfh apart from one day a week, and might start going in on a Saturday to a/minimise contact in the office b/minimise use of keyworker school and c/time is meaningless now, what's a weekend?

I always have my ID badge on me for work anyway but have advised any staff coming in to make 100% sure they have it. We're all driving in. Roads are quiet but the trains into Cardiff are still jam packed.

Last night I was told I was a key worker but I'm on the way home with the contents of my locker and a spare computer screen so maybe not eh. If stopped my excuse is I'm fucking going home!

I'm working from home, but my ID for one of the country's largest statutory undertakers expired in Dec. I haven't renewed it because security at various places just wave me though. If I had to go somewhere , I do have an email from the a fairly senior director saying what I do for them - hopefully that would do the job

All these MPs clutching their pearls at how rammed the tubes/overground is...like they've not really thought through the consequences of having your (key) workers on shit wages and inflating the property asset bubble as a key goal of 'economic policy'. Where do these cunts think we all live; Belgravia?

On a rota at work now so I'm only in once a week. A walkable distance and will have my work ID with me.

WFH today. It's weird. Went for a walk early this morning, never seen the main road so quiet, even on Christmas Day.
