Coronavirus Haircuts

Has anyone bought the ultra cheap hair trimmers I see advertised on the net and can vouch for their working a reasonable amount of time? I found a website selling them for like £10 while Amazon is selling more recognised brands for £25 - 35 ..

I am going to need a buzzcut no 2 at some point soon.

Spend the £25 is my advice. Have had crap experiences of shitty/cheap clippers. YMMV.

I paid about £30 (i think) for the Wahl set I have now - must have had them approaching a decade now. Don't use them that much tbh, though.

Pay cheap, pay twice.

I didn't pay a whole lot for my Wahl clippers, back in 1991, but they've been cutting my hair ever since and haven't missed a beat.

The last thing you want is a pair of clippers that expires mid-haircut.

I got some £35 Wahls the other day, which I hope will be good enough. Same approach - don't buy the cheapest - they'll be rubbish.

I haven't actually used them yet.

It's nice to have something to look forward to these days.

Had my first go with my new clippers today - a Braun set I got from Shavers .co .uk. Recommend them, tbh. I've never had or used a set before.

My hair is like a mop when it isn't kept short. It's very thick and wiry which is both a blessing and a curse now I'm in my fifties. It tends to go the full Sideshow Bob very quickly.

Not bad results, if I do say so myself. Obviously I experimented with the "Travis Bickle" along the way, but otherwise surprisingly easy, even the back of me head.

The big revelation was getting rid of my month-long lockdown beard. Holy fuck these things are good at that.

I will get a more expensive unit rather than the cheapo items I see online.

Being as I am quite bald on top I am now starting to approach the Bernie Saunders look, perhaps three weeks away, (not in hair colour, just spread around the sides), I much prefer closely cropped.

The back can just grow long and I'm quite good at cutting my own fringe but at some point I'm going to have to face the issue of whether to bleach my roots. It's only the fringe so I can see to do it. It should be possible 🤔

On the plus side my hair is in great condition from not being immersed in chlorine at the pool several times a week.

Nb for anyone cutting a fringe, it's well worth understanding how a fringe is constructed. It's not, as you would think, a straight strip along the front of the head. It's a rounded triangle or semi-circle with the highest point towards the top of the head. You need to section it off carefully and pin everything else out of the way before trimming.

there was a video on facebook of a lad doing his mates hair, only to take a few chunks out the bare blade and then chuck the clippers in to a field behind the house.

I'm just #1-ing it all over at the moment. Not only does it save time, it also means people instinctively do social distancing.

Yeah, I've noticed that when my hair is into the wood as well. I'm quite a big guy anyway, but with a buzzcut I totally look like someone who has a history of throwing chairs at riot police at away matches.

When I first did a No 2 my sister said I looked like a concentration camp inmate :-/

I actually only grew my hair out so that people would maybe smile at me in supermarkets. That's now a moot point.
I was just at the supermarket today, not much smiling ..

You're lucky, then. I look like someone on Death Row who was obviously bang to rights, doesn't give one tiny shit, and would do it all over again given half the chance. I had ONE photo of it, and I've lost that.

Which is probably for the best.

TBF, that was a #0, finished with a razor, which probably didn't help :hmm:
