Coronavirus Haircuts

Looks like this thread will be getting the chop soon as hairdressers will be able to reopen from 4th July.

I don't fancy the barber atm, frankly, and about the only advantage of male-pattern baldness is that I can do self-inflicted haircuts. I've found my old clippers still work and I've not yet noticed anyone laughing at the results so I'm sticking with it for now. It's free anyway. Now all I need is to pluck up the courage to do something about my increasingly Denis Healey eyebrows.

I used my clippers on my eyebrows, set to 12mm first try, closer on a second attempt. Mind you I tend to have long rather than thick eyebrows. Did the trick though, carefully does it. :)

FFS, all you need for eyebrows is some small scissors! I wouldn't want to be waiving my clippers around anywhere near them.

(nasal hair trimmers are good for eyebrows too)

Can you get the insides of your ears and nostrils waxed? Getting fed up of the constant weeding of growths

Oh I think it has some legs yet past 4 July: namely ‘I can’t find anywhere that’ll take me until August’ kind of posts. A hairdresser was being interviewed today for the news and he said he had 2,500 appointments booked :D

Was he a hairdresser or a barber? If the latter they can buzz through a lot of us pretty quickly, especially if we're just asking for a better job of what we've done during lockdown.

Can’t remember, but either way that’s a lot of bookings, and most barber shops tend to be smaller businesses with 4-6 chairs tops. At a rate of 100 jobs a day, which few barbers are likely to surpass, you’re still talking of a calendar month’s worth of appointments before they can see anyone else, never mind any additional bookings they will certainly get in the meantime.

And for smaller barbers, or most hairdressers where 50-60 jobs a day is a more likely yield, that’s a two-month waiting list for folk without a booking.

I just run the clippers over them on a grade 4. :)

You can buy eyebrow kits to do them at home. The scissors are very delicate and they're at an angle, so much easier to use than scissors not especially made for that purpose.

Ears would be horribly dangerous but I know some barbers do noses because a friend of mine had it done and claimed it was the most painful thing he'd ever experienced. Wuss.

it's not too bad yanking out a few at a time, but I imagine it would be quite painful all at once. And yes, probably not a good idea with ears - the skin on them is so soft. My earlobes are covered in very fine hair - they feel like antler velvet

Don't barbers still use the flaming meths soaked cotton bud to remove ear hair?

Not something I would have experience of. I'm just sure that pouring hot wax down your ear would be a very very bad idea and know that nose hair waxing is apparently a thing. Apparently it does leave you feeling really clean.

one near me does (assume he's fairly good as there's usually quite a wait there so haven't been there for a while) - he seemed to manage without setting me on fire

i am pissed off with the coronavirus scruff look. it's too hot to have hair this long...

And without a septum. :(
