CIA and the Non-communist Left (NCL)

Yugoslav

Jugoslaven
Between the 1950s and late 1960s, the CIA was known to engage in infiltrating leftist movements, not for their dissolution but instead to deradicalize them and instill American values as a form of controlled leftism against the USSR. With the rise of the anti-Soviet critique by prominent leftists in the West, the CIA woke up to this and saw an opportunity to foster anti-communism not just in open right-wing form but to also turn left-wing movements against communism itself and the idea of class struggle. Funnily, the CCF thought that the "New Left", the very product of their anti-communism, was "neo-Stalinist".

The CCF, founded in 1950, was present in 35 countries and was funded by the CIA until the CIA's involvement was discovered in 1966. This was notably a daring operation to undermine communism with a fake socialism. FBI on the other hand was involved in the infamous "COINTELPRO" (between 1956 and 1971) in which it aimed to split and disorganize socialist movements by baiting them to renounce their true intention and support American liberal values.

Just as well there aren’t any more recent and closer examples of this sort of state infiltration happening eh.
But the consequence of such is the product and the aftermath of state-sponsored left-wing anti-communism. The New Left would not have been stronger had the CIA not pursued the CCF as its breeding ground of anti-communist "leftism".

The Congress for Cultural Freedom (CCF) was an anti-communist cultural organization founded on 26 June 1950 in West Berlin. At its height, the CCF was active in thirty-five countries. In 1966 it was revealed that the Central Intelligence Agency was instrumental in the establishment and funding of the group.[1][2] The congress aimed to enlist intellectuals and opinion makers in a war of ideas against communism. Historian Frances Stonor Saunders writes (1999): "Whether they liked it or not, whether they knew it or not, there were few writers, poets, artists, historians, scientists, or critics in postwar Europe whose names were not in some way linked to this covert enterprise."[3]Peter Coleman argues that the CCF was a participant in a struggle for the mind "of Postwar Europe" and the world at large.[4]

The Cogress for Cultural Freedom claimed to be "socialist"? Is there any evicence for this surprising claim?
CIA wanting to convert would-be MLs into American exceptionalist liberalism disguised as "real leftism" as a means of bringing controlled leftist opposition to Marxism-Leninism.

"The final aim was to reform the parties' Weltanschauung with the help of the international personal networks already established, and then to transform the socialist and Social Democratic parties into Volksparteien, modelled on the American Democratic Party."

- Hochgeschwender, pg. 326

The source for the claim referenced on wikipedia is behind a paywall but there's a review of it here:

"Along the lines of Volker Berghahn’s argument, Scionti frequently alludes to the twin cultural Cold War waged by the CCF: against the influence of Soviet Communism and against Europe’s deeply rooted negative views of America as a civilization. The two aspects were mutually nourishing."

- H-Diplo ARTICLE REVIEW 990

And they have no regret on creating the greatest abomination to all leftists worldwide, "The Liberal Left".
No such thing, they are neither Liberal nor Left.

Please excuse me while I take time out to dust off my signed portrait of the great 'Walter'.

More entertaining reading this than watching that Tory knut Harry Kane staggering around the pitch.

Yes there is. Why was CCF created in the first place?

It is difficult to argue with someone who cannot understand the points made.
Where is the evidence that the Congress for Culturual Freedom ever claimed to "socialist" I asked, and in reply the Original Poster asked if I was denying that it was funded by the CIA.
Yet me tell you, I knew about the CIA funding of the CCF before you were born. I also know that it never claimed to be "left-wing" or "socialist".

I don’t understand why anyone is bothering tbh.

There’s no good faith on the part of the OP. I think that’s been amply demonstrated.
