Celtic FC 2024/25 - COYBIG

How do the play offs work? anyone know? are matches drawn from a hat, or seeded based on position in the current league?
This apparently.

"How will the play-off draw work?

The play-off draw will be held on January 31 at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, and will be streamed live on UEFA.com.

Clubs that finished ninth to 16th in the league are seeded in four pairs (9 and 10, 11 and 12 and so on) and the rest will make up four unseeded pairs (17 and 18, 19 and 20 etc).

Each seeded pair will be drawn against an unseeded pair. For example, nine or 10 will play 23 or 24, while the teams that finished 11th or 12th will come up against the teams that were 21st or 22nd in the league. The aim is for seeded clubs to play their return legs at home.

The draw allocates each team from a pair to one of the pre-determined positions in the bracket. For example, for the first draw, one of the clubs ranked 23rd or 24th will be drawn in one side of the bracket, leaving the other to be automatically placed on the opposite side. The unseeded pairings will be drawn first, with the process then repeated for the seeded pairings, starting from the teams ranked 15 and 16.

Teams can be drawn against another from the same country or an opponent they faced during the league phase. The eight teams that come through the play-off phase will then progress to the last 16. The top two seeds (currently Liverpool and Barcelona) cannot play each other until the final."

Thanks. Seeded, but complicated, cos it's UEFA (ie not 9th v 24th, 8th v 23rd etc).

The game against Villa might have been easier (to get a point) if they'd beaten Monaco, but hey ho.

Sorry a bit off topic but the BBC highlights of the Benfica v Barca game were ... spectacular with an amazing comeback by Barca and a couple of the finest own-goal types events I've ever seen.

The Battles of Britain continues tonight v Aston Villa. A quick search says that out of 20 previous European matches we have won 7, drawn 7 and lost 6, which isnt too shabby, although it has been just over 18 years since we last won one.

Hi Celtic fans, can anyone tell me how difficult it is to get tickets for games, please.

I might have some work in the Glasgow area in the next couple of months and I'd quite like to maybe see Celtic play. Can I buy tickets at the ground or do I need to do it online? Will I need to become a member?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

This info is from a couple of years ago - but if you pick a game against a smaller opposition club you shouldn’t have a problem. Have seen Celtic play both Ross County and Dundee in recent seasons and wasn’t a problem buying tickets online. I wouldn’t chance it on the day unless you’re actually staying in Glasgow as games may sell out. Obviously no chance for an Old Firm game and also difficult against against Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs as they bring bigger away followings which I think means fewer tickets in the home end to non season ticket holders
