Can US Supreme Court be reformed next time Democrats are in power?

nightowl

Another day on that hamster wheel we call life
The Republicans obviously ditched any notion of keeping any balance between left and right leaning justices during the last Trump administration and the situation could get worse by the time he finishes in 2029. Is there any potential for eventually reforming the court or restoring balance or is it seen as a great untouchable in terms of public opinion?

It doesn't need a constitutional amendment just a regular bill. So in theory yes. I think there was recent talk of members serving 18 year terms and one retiring every 2 years instead of serving for life. Although i think it's like reforming or abolishing the house of lords in this country. They talk about it but nothing ever happens.

Supreme court is fucked for a generation at least. already right leaning and have 2 trump favouring judges both in their late 70's who will more than likely retire before trump runs down the 4 years..
nothing going to be changed till after than 4 years at least so good luck to non trump yoting yanks

On the other hand quite a lot of Trump staff from 2016-2020 have since renounced him as a cunt, so is it possible that one or more judges may do the same? Can he unilaterally remove if they do stray from his line of thinking on anything?

true if he does that to Thomas or Alito i would not a shed a tear
someone suggest it to biden before the jan :hmm:

Fine by me if Biden decides to start culling conservative SCOTUS justices Anton Chigurh-style, but with another Trump administration incoming, it might be hard for him to recruit replacements
