Burger Thread. Yes!

chips like bread, pastry, and similar foods are all just handles for the actual thing you want to eat.

You're doing all three things so badly wrong.

The chip, when done right, shows the humble potato with luck, hard work and talent you can be a food of a god. God there are a few chippers in Dublin that can show you what potatoes, veg oil with dash of salt and a splash of vinegar can do to a man.

And toast. Why dried roasted bread, when done right with a slather of butter, why sir it tastes like a angel jizzed in your mouth.

And pastry? a croissant just butter and bread, served warm in a Parisian cafe with a incredibly strong coffee, makes any morning a religious experience.

sure.. they're ok.
but they're not as good as the fillings that they often hold.

Amen brother.

Whoa hang on a second. You're adding salt and vinegar to these chips, and butter to this bread. I'm on about the starchy fellows on their own..... what is bread without butter? Chips without at least salt? They are merely potential, awaiting awakening to their true calling

Tell you what next time you're eating a burger have boiled spuds with it. See if that improves the experience.

Erm? Boiled spuds are crap..........until you slather them with butter, herbs, salt etc. The burger involvement here makes no sense

The point is chips and burgers go together like two things that go very well together. Relegating the chip to be a mere vessel for ketchup/mayo does this magnificent creation a great disservice

YOU STILL NEED AT LEAST SALT ON THE CHIPS DAMMIT. You're misunderstanding my point I think....

I think we are at a cross purpose here. For example we'll agree that a beef patty in a bun, with nothing else is a very poor burger.

Had a great burger at lunchtime from Five Guys in Westfield.

2 nicely cooked patties, cheese and bacon, pickle, ketchup and grilled onions. Excellent burger but that and a bottle of water came to just over a tenner, which was a bit steep in my opinion.

bizarrely, a photo of a burger from my mates place in Preston has had more than 600,000 views after being on the front page of reddit (wtf is reddit? I don't understand what it does).

its not even that good a picture (I've taken far better and posted them here, as have most of the rest of you...)

Well I'm trying to lose weight at the moment, so thought I wouldn't be on this thread for a while. However I'm at work and made burgers for everyone last night and they went down really well. Quite small burgers, but two of them in a bun which I liked. Biggest shock was the cheese, put processed on the shopping list and got cheddar slices. Normally don't like it as it over powers the burger, but this was really kind and worked beautifully. Topped with bacon and the kids loved them.

Cos I'm watching the weight I had a sweet potato and salad on the side. Not something I'd normally do, but really like the contrast. Will certainly be repeating.

Burgers tomorrow. Gotten patties from butchers today (great deal 4 pork chops, 4 seasoned pork chops, 4 chicken thighs, 2 sirloin, 6 burgers) all for under 20 euro.

They shall have sliced emmenthal, pickle, rocket, red onion, and tomato, served with american mustard and jalapeno relish.

Im not really scaremongered by that sort of stuff to be honest Yets (i doubt you are either!) Pretty funny though!

Might be homemade pesto mushroom burger shaped things tonight. Not sure it will be picture worthy given the last effort and the absence of meat.

its not a 'real' burger (and pesto is banned from any burger coming near me), but we'd love to see it. :)

Hey once I'm more in shape and back on the red meat, trust me there will be proper burgers. In the meantime. ..

Nice one...thanks for posting. I wouldnt necessarily but them together, but nice lookin ingredients - however, arent you cooking the mushrooms?? I feel sorry for any mushroom that gets baked...ends up dry and shrivelled :(

I use cashews in my pesto and I'm not eating much oil so i put a tiny slug of oil and some water in my pesto before blending. Then I topped the mushies with that before baking the lot. Cuts down on the garlic breath and they stay moist.
