Burger Thread. Yes!

Had some 'peppered beef grill steaks' last night.

Basically a burger with more spice/seasoning :hmm:

had tea at the clog & billycock (one of Nigel Haworth's pubs) and - mindful of this thread - ordered a burger.

as well as the patty, the burger featured: Iceberg Lettuce, Beef Tomato, Pickled Cucumber, Crispy Onions, Spicy Tomato Relish, Bomber Lancashire Cheese, Blackberry Farm Streaky Bacon, Piccalilli, Chilli Pickle, Mustard Mayonnaise, Real Chips cooked in Dripping.

It was a knife and fork job and therefore a failure as a burger. But, it tasted fucking good.

No need for bacon on a burger (no matter how much you love bacon on other stuff). It takes away from the starring role of the patty and is awkward too so makes all burgers a bastard to eat.... take that off and like Yets says, go easy on the pickle (although pickles definitely DO belong on a burger). Quite a fail if you had to eat with a knife and fork - had a similar, messy experience lately which was uncalled for, cos the patty was too BIG and the bread was low quality and disintegrated right in my hands....burger fail...but like this, the meat was good. Your burger does look good, i have to say. And the chips look incredible!

I get you cheesy - it's easy to end up pulling the guts out of your burger if you don't bite all the way through the bacon. I do like bacon on a burger though. it's a quandry.

No need for bacon? Bacon is "awkward"? You're on ignore now

no need on a burger!! And it doesnt melt in the mouth, as a burger should. It's just stacking up an extra layer of very strong and distinct flavour that makes it more about the bacon than anything else. I love a really good bacon sandwich (best one in London is St Johns in Bishopsgate), but just because i love bacon in loads of combinations doesnt mean it just 'belongs' on a burger. A cheeseburger is better than a bacon cheeseburger. Even if you used the best quality bacon it just complicates the burger and detracts from the real star: the patty.

Would you like a spade with your burger? Anyway, like I said, you're on ignore

Where do people stand on the zinger tower, that has a whole massive hash brown ontop.

Thats alright, cos chicken burgers are not 'real' burgers. They are a sandwich like a burger but a burger is associated with beef, and nowt else....dont ask me why. ....people know what i mean..

like if you asked someone to get you a 'burger' at the takeaway and they come back with a chicken burger it wasnt what you ordered...

Wrong wrong wrong. Overmushification. Which is actually a word by the way.

Whereas bacon on a burger, I'm into. It's a healthy addition to any cheeseburger and gives a BBQ Cheeseburger a more mighty punch.

Mmmm bacon ketchup.

Just on a aside.

What are acceptable burger condiments?

Me. Ketchup. Mustard (French's American Mustard natch). Will at a pitch add a minor amount of mayo. Chili. Relish (have a jar of Jalepeno chili relish that is running v low). Gerkins. Onions. Cheese (must be emmenthal.) If there is green stuff it should be rocket.

Basically my perfect burger at the moment is aforementioned relish, mustard, gerkins, raw onion, emmenthal cheese (melted, blates), and rocket on a ciabatta bun. And I am about to make this.
