Burger Thread. Yes!

On me travels and did the dirty deed....quickly googled places to eat and found 'Bar Square' which was kinda hipster but the reviews were good so i toddled off....http://www.barsquareballina.com/

I get to the venue and its packed but not too loud as its a sweet country town in Connacht. They make room for me and i chose The Plain Jane with cheese, and chilli wedges....well fuck me, the thing was HUGE, and i mean HUMONGOUS, which in burger terms aint necessarily a good thing....
The meat was good quality, and the cheese and salad very fresh, but the bun couldnt hold the thing together and disintegrated in my hand upon first bite. I had to do a hipster thing and eat the mofo with a knife and fork :(. The wedges were more like potatoes, and smothered in a kind of marie rose sauce. The waitress recommended them over French fries, i wish i had gone for the latter, still demolished the lot mind.....the little tumbler of sauce there on the right was a homemade gravy which was amazing on everything. I did ask for mustard (being my fathers daughter) :)

After the meal (and a Carlsberg), i popped out for a quick cigarette, came back inside, and felt the weight of the gluttony upon me....could hardly move for a good 20 minutes. Then i strolled around the town and felt very lethargic. I have to be up early so thats fine, but a little too stodgy and messy overall (see second pic)

That does look like a mighty fine burger Miss..... a bit big for a lady though, (and me.... I can't do more than 1/3 pound of beef in a burger) and those wedges look killer. Interesting with the sauce all over them, looks like cheese. And a gravy jug with a burger and chips?! These guys are pushing the boundaries.... I like their balls

Excellent work :)

Flaming Grill Pubs have a Burger Festival on..... looks a bit thrown together if you ask me, not much thought gone into the actual combinations.

Oh and this one won't get messy, no sir

The fuck? That's the worst kind of discrimination, why shouldn't we have massive burgers? Because we have vaginas? DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!

nah, fellas cant eat massive burgers with disintegrating buns either!!!

Gravy though? Burger and gravy? That's just a bit odd.

It was on the side, and was this all purpose wonder - incredible. They serve everything with lots of sauces in Ireland, sometimes these things can be hit and miss, but it worked well.

And give me a burger!

Fair point :)

I'm a condiment whore, shamelessly as well. I'll have different 3 sauces that I put in different proportions on each chip, as I eat them. This gravy thing (I imagine it's not Bisto we're talking here) sounds mighty fine

I reckon a FEB burger could be ok though. Burger, bacon, egg, tomato, cheese. Could be good.

No sausages, beans or lettuce though please. Still pushing it... a burger is a thing of majesty, and shouldn't be used as the plaything of overpaid, underexperienced marketeering shmuckbags

Amen brother!

I don’t really rate flaming grill pubs. I've had some okish steaks but the burger I had wasn’t great.

I did however have an excellent burger yesterday in Rodells:

Really really tasty tender juicy meat. It looks like there isn’t any relish in there but there is. Also had a flat iron steak from the same place, which was probably the best steak I have ever had!

Looks delicious, if a little too big on the patty side. Those chips look tremendous.

Well, I almost forgot...how could I?! Managed to get a chance to hit The Burger Joint in Whiteladies Rd, Bristol the other day. Almost couldn't find it and was about to reluctantly hit Wetherspoons but out of nowhere it appeared a few doors down while I was crossing to get some cash out of the machine over the road.

The place? Nice, smart, cool, decent terrace which was apparently reserved (all tables) unless I could eat my burger within an hour..... ahem, I think that won't be a problem kind sir..

The price was £13 for a burger, with one topping (Montery Jack Cheese), three sauces (two are free), fries and a pint of Moretti. The wedges looked enormous and slightly overdone, and the sweet potato chips aren't my thing. Salad, obviously not so hence me going for the fries, which were damn nice and plentiful. I had ketchup and tarragon and lemon mayo on the bottom bun, burger relish on the top. The bun was a lightly toasted herb dusted number, which was excellent.

The taste? Well, one of the best damn burgers I've had. Juicy, well seasoned and an excellent standard of beef and toppings. Highly recommended. The lemon and tarragon mayo added a very nice twist.
