Britain should rejoin the EU...

...but lie to the public and say they're not rejoining the EU. It would be entirely characteristic of the Tories to do that.

What do you have to lose? The pound sterling is already in the shitter, adopting the Euro would be an improvement. The UK has proven that leaving the Union will destroy your economy. Any other country thinking of exiting will reconsider.

But, but, the socialist utopia that Lexit is guaranteed to bring is just weeks away…

No they haven't

At most they've proved a Tory-led brexit is a bad idea. And we've got all the tories in Europe.

And if the pound really is in the shitter why is it doing to well?

You mean, surely, why has it crept slightly higher than its lowest point against the dollar for 40 years?
We all know what a currency in the shitter looks like. The Turkish lira before revaluation. The German mark after the first World war. The rouble in the early 90s etc etc. For me a currency in the shitter is one that's collapsing. And it shows little sign of that. As for your 40 years, it's not 1982 that saw the lowest point of the pound v dollar but 1985.

I'd rather join the USA at this point.

Republicans won't even accept statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington DC, I don't think they're going to roll out the welcome mat for 60 million relatively liberal Europeans whose representatives in Congress would demand things like stronger gun laws and a national health service.

Joining Canada might be a more plausible option - and would probably give Britain a better trade deal with the EU than it has now - but the official English/French bilingualism could be a dealbreaker.

Why would the bilingual thing be a problem?

to get a residency visa in Canada you need to demonstrate a degree of competency in speaking French.
No you don't.

For Quebec you might but Quebec isn't the whole of Canada. It has other states and other states will have different requirements.
For example Manitoba requires that you can Yodel.

Also a large proportion of the civil service is required to be bilingual and all information on food labels etc. has to be in both languages, which would probably cause enormous amounts of grumbling. "My great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather's grandfather fought in the Hundred Years' War to avoid having everything in French," etc.

In Alberta you have to pass the Howdy-Pardner-Yahoo Test.

In ten years this will look like a very prescient post
