A spokesperson for Dr Wallis said: “Jamie was involved in an accident and is assisting police with their inquiries. While this is ongoing he will not be commenting,”

South Wales Police said: “A 37-year-old man from Cowbridge was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit.

“He has been released under investigation.”

A post on Mr Wallis’s Facebook page said a planned surgery with constituents on Saturday had to be postponed until the New Year as he had tested positive for Covid.

A Tory MP has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit after a late-night collision with a lamp post.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that Bridgend MP Jamie Wallis is under investigation by police over a road accident last month in a quiet village.

"Driving whilst unfit" is an unusual charge. It's not the normal drink or drug driving, which might imply he was either off his tit's on an unusual drug, or for some reason breath/ bloods were not taken and it's down to the cops saying he was wankered.

I reckon nothing will come of it given he will have access to decent brief.

I was just thinking that. I've never heard of 'driving whilst unfit'.

There are many on the roads that are though. (Unfit to have control of a vehicle that is.).

i'm neither a lawyer or a copper, but it does seem to exist

this is a page from a solicitors' - from this and a similar page, it seems to cover cases where for whatever reason they can't do a breathalyser (or whatever the equivalent is for illegal drugs) and can also cover where someone's unfit to drive due to medical (rather than illegal) drugs

It is usually drug-related, certainly in terms of the arrest (where it might not be obvious what he has taken).

You would have thought that drugs were drugs, prescribed or not.

He hasn't any excuses, driving into a stationary lamp post, I mean FFS..

And if he does have covid he was hardly in quarantine was he!

Prize bell end
