BrewDog: yet another hip company using 'rebel' language to sell its stuff

But with better beer
TBF, I've never been into a BD establishment to taste their ales but, based on a limited survey of their shop bought products ("Lost Lager" -absolute piss & "Dark Heart"(?) faux Guinness), I'd beg to differ.

Though Martin is an arse of the first order, I very much doubt that Watt & Co. could provide real ale of this strength or quality at this price?

Having sampled both, I think there's a few to recommend from both capitalist outlets but overall, they be both fronts for fucking over staff.

I avoid brewdog this side of the world (it crops up occasionally) but have to admit to visiting the other franchise last year in Dublin. It's shockingly popular.

All fair, but I'll repeat again...some of us don't have much choice about avoiding 'spoons either through the necessity of cost or availability. Out her in the poorer 'burbs they are places where 'spoons is the pub. My high street did have one other Antic pub for a short while, but then that closed leaving 'spoons.

Sure.

And it's fine. It's kind of like people saying they don't do politics or not interested in politics because they're all the bloody same... and then voting Tory again.

There's always other choices, and yes, those choices may require sacrifice or making an extra effort... but as long as we fill the pockets of these grifters.. the longer they remain overseers and grifting shits.

Not having a go, by the way. As said, I've been to both outlets.

I was thinking you can usually reckon on getting a drinkable pint in spoons but, saying that, they appear to be selling lots of Greene King stuff lately.

You can easily replicate the Weatherspoons experience by buying a cheap can of lager, mixing it with water and drinking it in a public toilet.

You know, despite the occasional tone in this thread, I think we can all agree that Greene King is total shit.

You can always tell people who know little about beer by the Greene King hatred.

Greene Kind sell 2 very good beers indeed; Abbot, and, since they bought Morland, Old Speckled Hen, though these will obviously not appeal to swillers of Euro fizz-piss.

Abbott is fine, I'll give you that. Let's not pretend about anything else

I'm currently drinking a pint of Pentrich,"Evenings and Weekends" a 4.6% pale on cask, not draft/keg. I'm very happy with it.

No, they will not! I like my Euro fizz-piss thank you very much.
"Real ale" is horrible to me.

Was recommended it by a mate back then. Had only been in the country for a few years and still finding my way.

That's my excuse, anyway ;)
First pub I worked in was a free house but also linked to Courage somehow and we sold Directors, which also got a lot of grief as I recall but could be a really good pint if well kept, helped we were not far from the brewery. One of my only professional qualifications is a cellarman's certificate I got off a course run by Courage!

I was surprised to discover Greene King hate was a thing tbh, remember their beers being inoffensive/fine.

The GK hate nowadays mostly stems from their aggressive acquisition policy of the last couple of decades. They scooped-up loads of independents (like Morland) thus alienating a lot of folk whose local traditional boozer got a Greene King sign stuck on it. That said, there's very little wrong with their beers, and their properties are generally well looked after and managed. The IPA is pretty ordinary but acceptable, while Abbot is one of the finest beers sold in UK pubs.

Yes, Abbot was on our rotation for guest beers.

Abbot is usually a standard pump in 'spoons. If there's nothing more interesting on offer I'll take it as it is, after all, quite strong.

It's a cheap pint too. I used to drink it in one of my locals before they took it off tap (and I gave up drinking)
