Brazil v Germany (Semi Final) Tuesday 8th July 2014

I was going to say not completely pointless. At least they got one, they can tell themselves. but it was so late I'm not sure anyone will remember 7-1, only the bit where it was 7-0.

It won't be "pointless" to the spread-betters either. ;)

I am always impressed with how quickly people put these montages together. Obviously the goals and other key moments are easy enough, but selecting the close up reaction shots out of what must be hundreds if not thousands, then weaving it all together to produce something resembling a narrative.. Very good.

I was really wondering whether it will reignite the protests. Probably as you say though.
People on my Facebook were saying this is bad news for Dilma and will lead to a more right-wing government but I don't know how true it is. It could reignite protests. I guess there's a lot of variables in play. Worth watching.

This is the best thing to happen to Brazilian football... losing like this. I grew up loving Brazilian football via as a child watching the amazing 1970 world cup, this team have bullied their way to the semi final with football for me that was a turnoff and with some of the players Fred/Hulk of a standard that would just about get them on the subs bench for Sam Allardyce.

The Germans fucking hell, I loved it... technical organised passing football... as a synchronised team. The most profound moment in the match was when Brazil scored and the annoyance with the Germans at themselves at having conceded a goal with three minutes to go.... perfection, welcome to engineered fussball. Thank you....

Theres a lot of crap that gets said about football teams based on one result i find - take Spurs this season, the media turned on ABV after a drubbing from Man City, then wet themselves over Tim Sherwood, who likewise oversaw another drubbing by Man City and took Spurs exactly no higher or lower up the table than AVB managed (6th)

They were without their captain and their miracle maker - imagine England without Gerrard and Rooney ( :D )
Everyone saying Germany are a great team. I disagree. I think the standard of the international teams has been poor this year. Germany are just a good team playing shit ones.

Beating, in the commentator's words, "the worst team ever to reach a semi-final" doesn't make you a great team, even if you thrash them.

I know what you mean but i find it so hard to compare teams over time... fitness levels go higher and higher and tactics are improved - would classic sides from the 90s have fared better against these teams? I find it impossible to say.

Indeed, could have sat back in the 2nd half but kept trying to score goals, utterly professional

Woooooooo hoooooooooooo, Brazil's scored. Now, with the extra time, they should be able to slot in another 6!

:D

I liked the spirit of the Brazilian-supporting couple at the Dogstar, downing several shots as the game ended and then asking me where else was still open for more. :)

well said.
I suppose now it'll all be 'Brazil need a total overhaul, they play too much futsal and don't learn the basics of defending'
Spain too, they have too many small players and focus too much on technique.
When Germany next lose I'll think of something that's wrong with them. not enough creativity perhaps. everyone loves to attribute these things to some failure of the system instead of acknowledging that football is often a bit random, plus teams come and go for all sorts of reasons, often based on two our three players.
shit happens sometimes. Germany have a good side right now, brazil not so much, but I'm sure they'll be in the running again next time
