Boomtown 2015

sim667 what kind of festivals do you do with your rig?

Small ones really, its normally as wet hire, but we'd like to try and do something small somewhere and get a few other rigs involved...... we do our own local events, predominantly reggae, bassline/garage/juke/jungle/drum and bass and maybe some breakcore if the crowds feeling it

Most of the festivals we've done are hires though, and sometimes we give them a bit better rate for a few sets, we've done FSTVL (that was mainly house and we didn't get involved other than the rig/lights/lasers), we've done a local one to use called redfest aswell, which is predominantly a metal festival but has a token dance tent (think "my first festival" for local kids), we did get to play though. We've got a small charity one we do yearly too. Festivals are a hard one to break into, its all a very closed circle, and by and large a festival will require a lot more kit than we have currently, so they'll go direct to someone like F1. Apparently our rig was the one that was used for the bodyshop at boomtown a lot before we bought it. We were getting somewhere with boomtown for a little venue, but then an internal disagreement (our end, not theirs) ballsed it up. I've been thinking about trying another application for a mini boomtown venue, but on my own (well not totally solo, but not in a situation where too many cooks will spoil the broth).

Most of it is wet hire for nights though, we've done a lot of the house nights in portsmouth (I can't remember the name, I never do that one much), we've done a lot of the more recent erisian nights in brighton (breakcore nights). But we've just become an affiliated hire company for F1 in surrey, so we're getting more and more work now which is really good, its been 3/4 years of just breaking even by the time we've covered expenses such as storage, but we're finally saving up to replace the van we had that died a few years ago.

lucky to make any money out of it!

Yeah of course...... but if we did everything free then we'd have to sell the rig...... At the end of the day it needs to be paid off and we need to pay to store.

TBF when we first discussed it we'd settled on chipping in a couple of grand to get a littlun for the odd free party in the woods...... I went on holiday and when I got back discovered the others had decided to buy this  :D

This is our kit list. A vast majority of the time were doing tailored quotes for the full set up.

This is the full set up (minus all the grubbins to make it run).... Occasionally we hire another two bins and tops (on top of this) of another fella, to run as relays too. Also, not us in the picture ;)

The beginnings of chapter 7 are being revealed !!

Something completely mental is happening in the city - something never before seen in a UK festival - we are all unbelievably excited :)

part 3 coming Jan 15th

I had a quick look through the website but I could't see a Deep House/Cosmic Disco type stage/area, looking for something like a DiY Soundsystem setup that would add nicely to everything else (the icing on the cake).

Anyone know if I can get a bit of that there too?

Flogging molly and Matisyahu..... they're both on my "want to see" list :D

There's really not that much on my want to see list to be fair.

Squarepushers a bit of a shock, stadium quality IDM rather than a sweaty little tent, hidden in a dark corner..... I wander what stage that will be on :hmm:

hmm and a bit meh indeed.
still want to go for SP23 and from that poster
Blak Uhuru, Noisia, Turbulence and Ward 21, Bug + Flowdan, Sherwood ad Pinch, A Guy called Gerald, Akalaa, Ruts DC and some others

Don't want to be one of those dicks who books a festival based on the lineup (esp at Boomtown), but the idea of missing EZ and Rodigan is NOT the sort of shit I'd ever forgive myself for.

Ticket bought. It's on.

Its worth noting that realistically this will be about a 1/10 of the acts that get booked.

Currently trying to work my way into worming into a set at one of the mini venues like last year :D

Oh my goodness. The techno lineup is sublime. I have no more words.

Forest trance arena  the Forest Spirit will be with you all..........if ever you feel lost call to her and she will answer

Boomtown virgin, and I'm thinking of going..... but I'm wondering what it would be like with a 5 year old?

Would there be enough things for a 5 year old to do, or would it be more a case of stepping over the smoking carcasses of the previous night's ket-fuelled mega-rave on the way to breakfast?

We're also going to Shambala, which is a brilliant festie , and great for my 5 year old, but I'd love to squeeze in another festie this summer.
