Boomtown 2012

So they've said on facebook that the end of the world party is in the southwest, so I imagine its bristol.

Someone on there suggested it might be motion, but they've said thats too small....

Im gonna book me a weekend away in bris as soon as I know its there (can anyone else think of massive indoor spaces around that area it might be)..... I was thinking it could be the old fire station.

old fire station was good for Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space
after we found the venue!
is it big enough for Boomtown though?

See, i'd have thought it was smaller than motion, but when I went it was to the invisible circus, and we got shown round one of the buildings by me mate who was involved, and I think 60-70% of it was closed off and they were using it for living in.

cool, that sounds better
when i went it was a bar, a big room with Scientist etc in and an interconnecting big outdoors bit with decent fire
bit of a cross between a site and venue

Yeah it's a wicked place, if I was loaded I'd totally try and buy it as a venue, but the council still rent it out.

The bit your talking about is just the fire station, there's an ajoining old police station, complete with cells which were meant to be where we were sleeping, but when we got down there we didn't really fancy it, the paintings in there were a bit freaky for sleeping when you're wired.

Love all that kind of stuff.

Last time I went - with Gerry1time and his missssus - we ended up briefly in the living area, was really great, fab decor. I love London to bits but it doesn't have anything *quite* like that. Shunt at London Bridge was marvellous, but didn't have the added dimension of people living there.

Dearest Boomtown Residents, Ravers, Skankers, Lunatics, Hippies and General Nutters.

This is that dreaded message you all really didn't want to receive - our multi venue December party has been postponed! The Boomtown Team have worked non-stop for the last two months trying to secure a new venue to host this event but we have simply run out of time, as you may or may not know the original venue that the event was built around was sold to us as the perfect mighty complex that would tick every box needed... that statement couldn't have been further from the truth!
We have been hunting down a multi venue complex that can hold over 6000 people, a place we can completely transform into a wonderland of magical mayhem, a venue where sound systems can be tweaked to the max along with lighting, visual and fire shows worthy of a Boomtown show, where death defying circus performances can be safely executed and yes where lunatics and nutters can safely run wild through our make-shift streets… this is what we were looking for and we would simply not accept anything less!
Fortunately, light has appeared at the end of the tunnel - we have signed contracts and been given the green light for the very venue we have been searching long and hard for. The date will fall on our annual Boomtown solstice party, this is always around mid-way between the mighty city fairs and falls on March 22nd, and this ladies and gentlemen I can safely say will be the party we are all dreaming about... A feast for all senses, an extravaganza of epic proportion, an adventure into the unknown! :) anyways...
Residents please keep visiting our event page for updates as this ridiculous venture unfolds.
We hope this hasn't shattered too many of your plans and we hope to see you all either in November for the Boomtown Caravan Palace show or in March for the Solstice Party....or ideally both!
Big Love,
The Town Mayor

Oh well..... At least its not cancelled.

Totally should have done something at the elektrowerkz in london for xmas, I'd have been all over that like jimmy saville on a child.

Can't see them getting 6k in for a one nighter, but maybe they aren't really shooting for that fugure and it'll be a winner regardless.

Very belatedly picked up on this postponement. 22 March could be a possibility (but with several ???'s)

Was looking forward to a Bristol bash near Xmas and the chance to escape the notorious Swansea 'Black Friday' but .... :(

Oh well! Always next year etc :)

tickets on sale for next years boomtown, 1st november, earlybird so cheep. dunno if I'll be able to go- will b 6 weeks away from deadline for thesis submission, but worth buying I reckon

I'm gonna buy one. It's be nice to try and fid some work doom decor etc though, if I do I'm sure I could sell it :)

A quick question for Boomtown-ites - would it be crazy to bring a 3 year old?

Yes.

Next!

Edit: Actually, it would probably be alright, but certainly not tailored for it like one liked shambala.

Personally as someone with no kids, if I had a kid, I probably wouldnt consider it until about 11 or 12 years old. But they do have a kids area and some kids facilities, and someone I know well knows the lady who has run the kids field at boomtown in the past, and she does it at a lot of other festivals too, so experienced staff in there.

But it is quite a 'full on' festival for a 3 year old I would say.

Difficult really. It's a lot more full on than most festivals but there are quieter areas. The only problem is that most of them are a long, steep uphill walk from the main entertainment areas in the town centre. Likewise the Kids Town area, although there seemed to be plenty for the little ones to get involved with once you got there.

yes up the steep hill and away from the loud stuff, Kidz Town area looked amazing from outside
they had a horse and pony in there! saw one of them draggin a huge trolley of stuff up the hill to ticket entrance when we were climbing it.

Go for it I'd say... obviously you'd have to tailor your festival accordingly and things don't really get going there until mid afternoon (it's more of a 4pm to 4am kind of do there...) but there were certainly fun things going on for little people :)

Kidz town was AMAZING, we were in it one morning as it just opened and another time after it was closed, breaking into KidzTown lol
