Boomtown 2012

Been meaning to get to this one for years. Maybe next year if we can get a babysitter for the weekend.....

Glad everyone had a good one.

the 2 huge fireballs they set off up the hill on sat were awesome and got a reaction all over the site

American crew - Nate Smith and his team. They were also doing the fire tornados just down from the main stage. First time any of it has been performed in Europe I think. Hats off to Boomtown for putting budget into this kind of stuff. I love it. I don't go to festivals for music - the more mad shit the better.

Home & hosed. Best fest of the year by some considerable distance. Beautiful setting, great set up, well run but still wonderfully scuzzy. Great to see so many old Urbanite friends and meet a few new ones too. Need sleep.....
Oh are you the reason I've got a card for Tort photography? Had no memory of how that happened.

Not long home, hell of a long day of travel. Sunburnt to absolute fuck and pretty much broken but it was a right larf, brilliant stuff. So many lovely people to spend time with. My show highlights were the Slackers and Arcadia. I love that it's small enough that you can keep bumping into folk you know

I had such a wicked and messy time  Where we camped there was no trouble or twattishness...well apart from me obvs. Was really glad to not be camped right near any stages (or toilets lol..shlurp shlurp...arghhhh doh) Everyone who went out of their way to interact with me was top notch ace :)

Arcadia really blew me away, also really enjoyed dancing to some swing bands, sicknote, ska stuff.... The woods were a pleasant escape from that massive ball of fire in the sky. I managed to avoid sunburn, which was pretty impressive for such a pale bitch as me. I loved being in a crowd of people (and people watching, pint in hand in the shade...and seeing so many freaks and nutters all united in a love for music, dancing, getting munted, eating yummy food and generally being all round good eggs) Watching people completely lose themselves in their own fun and always being able to spot someone much, much more twatfaced than me was reassuring at times :D

Special mentions for the two guys sharing three legged dungarees, dancing their arses off. To the police rave unit, to whoever those cool rapping girls were who opened up for sicknote in the woods, to the girl who shared her wetwipes with me (Ughh the toilets, I won't miss those at all...surely something less less primitive than the portaloo should have been invented by now? Ffs), the girl who shared her drugs with me ( ;) ) The complete strangers who went out of their way to be nice to me, to the girl who shared her whiskey with me when my foot had got trampled on by big men while dancing, to idumea for making me warm and comfy (?sp) bluey for being lovely as always, raver drew and dooby for going that extra mile and being just so fucking ace to hang out with. For callie for not being as evil as she would like people to think, mation for the baccy when I was desperate, sim for the sunscreen (sorry we didn't get chance to chat) for a nice chat with editor by the dragon, a dance with robbo, for boycey for letting me try on his gasmask..so cool! and last but not least for the wonderful camping buddies Ddraig and his mrs for the lift there and back :) I do hope you had as much fun as we did. Some people I met I don't know their names on here...sorry about that.

It was the perfect blowout for the end of my dossing days and I will never forget it :D

BOOOOOOOOOM!

16bit didn't appear as they have broken up.

Mental mental party. Atmosphere was off the scale amazing. Arcadia was insane, mushroom clouds, hidden ping pong, Jimmy Cliff, Chris Liberator, Dave the Drummer ,The DJ producer and all the people pumping out mental beats.

I salute you all, Boomtown rocks.

fyI : Had nice chat with Nate the mushroom cloud man, one Mushoom cloud uses 355kg of propane + diesel. That's probably more fuel than every camper van in the field for a year, in 5 seconds. He said for the full experience get up close, though be prepared for no eyebrows if you do. He will be at Bestival.

Wicked festival, was great to see how much work had gone in to building everything. Some really good music all round but the highlight for me was the Uk Garage stage, played three sets and got an amazing reaction every time.
To me it seemed like the organizers got the balance just right between control and safety vs chaos and fun. I never felt unsafe or like I couldnt do what I wanted but didnt feel overwhelmed by security guards and pointless rules.

now im back to reality, im still buzzing looking at the pics and the memories ( what can be remembered ;) )

the atmosphere was fantastic, i personally didnt have any hassle from anyone, cant think of a bit of music i didnt like, weather was great

I really don't know how to describe how much I enjoyed this fest. AWESOME range of acts, lots of daftness, good cider and plenty acid kicking about. And arcadia... fuck me, it really didn't have the same effect at glasto.

Highlights for me

Slackers
Capdown
The JB Conspiracy
Panacea
DJ Producer
FAR TOO FUCKING LOUD!

Best festival in the world ever! Mushroom clouds, dragon, bull, aerobics  , gramophone disco, ARCADIA!!!, Chris Liberator & D.A.V.E. the Drummer, lots and lots of lovely, happy people. :) :) :)

I had a fucking wickid time! It looked everyone else was too. It was almost like two festivals with that bit up the hill. I loved the stuff in the woods. Music was excellent. Babyhead were awesome.

tbh i didnt know who or what was going on playing but found some really wicked stuff, the skatellites on sun morning then , the hidden woods we fantastic. Arcadia blew me away, well tbh everything blew me away :)

I'll just paste what I told my brother when he emailed me asking if I had a good time:

Boomtown was WICKED ACE. Perfect weather. Didn't see a single bad act. My glowing animal head masks were super popular, as was my Bender costume (will try and get some photos soon). The Arcadia stage was incredible. Lasers and cranes dangling dancers and it looked like a giant spider and huge balls of fire came out of it. Just amazing. At midnight each night, they let off the biggest fire bomb, outside the boundaries of the site. 400kg of propane and diesel in one huge fireball that rose up into a 50m column of flaming mushroom cloud. You could feel the heat everywhere on site. There was an animatronic dragon, 3m long, articulated with opening wings and undulating neck and tail, that breathed fire. The arena area was all dressed up like a town center, with all sorts of strange things hidden behind unmarked doors; tiny little dancefloors hidden behind telephone booth doors, UV ping-pong in an otherwise blacked-out room etc. The crowd were all 100% up for it party people. No toe-dipping softies like you get at Glastonbury, and no leary drunks.

The only downsides were camping next to the toilet, and some of my mates got robbed on Thursday night. Otherwise, best festival ever, by quite some margin.

I am gutted I missed sound of rum :( But that's what I get for ignoring the guide completely and just seeing where I end up :)

I think thats the best way of seeing a festival. Turning up and seeing pronghorn last thing on Sunday night was ace because it wasn't planned. I guess a bit of planning makes finding people you have lost easier because you know the general area they will be in but I think it ruins the fun a little.

the beauty of it i found was it was just about the right size to bump into people, i think there were only 3 peeps i wanted to meet up with but didnt see, but loads of people i didnt expect to see , marvellous

I spent all of friday trying to find CDL and failed all day, I did bump into all the other people I knew though even the ones I didn't know were there :D

what was the soundsystem situation sim? Was Jah Shaka there with sound or djing? Was there a roots & dub corner?
they had the "Lion's Den" mate, you would've loved it i reckon
fuckoff huge arena tent with thousands of people inside and out
could have stayed there most of the time

highlights just in that tent for me were
Heatwave showcase with Leshur and Lady Chan, and of course the heatwave guys
Channel One
Skitz and Buggsy (as Rodney P hadn't turned up or was on his way)
Jah Shaka was on ealy but heard and felt it in the campsite, unmistakable
some 3 deck dudes playing evil jungle before Krinjah
and others i can't recall right now

was bonkers and constantly going off

the bush chemists were good, although I missed most of it, same with zion train...... mungo's hi-fi with soom t, kenny knots, YT and mr williams was fucking sick too. Benny page was rather good, and to my surprise so was jacky murda who i find a bit irritating.

Highlights for me were def channel one, and alborosie & ikaya

So sick of hearing all the amazing reports, gutted I missed it

Just look...
