As someone who's never been to Boomtown, can you tell me what's so good about it?
Fantastic location. Great choice of music. Hardly any big bands (so people come for the festival and not to see their fave enormo band). Lots of small fun things going on. Barely any Bestival-type wacky dress-up sorts. Goes on till 4am. Low key security. Feels like it's "your" festival. No sponsors. Amazing visuals. Loads of urbanites. Local ales and ciders. Great food selection. No awful Hog Roast corporate vans. No poi.

It's a bit like early Glastonbury. And that's a veh good thing.

was a shame about the number of tent robberies though:(

still the best festi that nobody's ever heard of. sssshhhhh!

met at least one couple who had their iphones nicked while they were kipping in their tent, (did think though they were on odd thing to bring, stick to your old nokia brick -its battery might actually last the weekend). More surprized by the number of people talked to who it had happened to, even among mates we had 4 tents out of 30 in different parts of the site gone through (mate actually caught a feral 14 year old in his) but we are all long enough in the tooth to know if you must bring shit you mind losing, then keep it on you.

I sleep with my belongings at the far end of my sleeping bag, so they'd have to unzip the outer tent doors, then unzip the inner tent and climb over me. Even at my most zonked, I'm pretty sure that would wake me up.

Stealing from tents appears to be back with a vengence, there were a few years around 2007- 2010 when I hardly heard any stories, but the last few festivals I've been to there has been quite a few stories of people having their tent ransacked. Not great, but then again with people bringing i-phones and i-pads to festivals its hardly surprising.

Fucking banging festival, so glad so many urbs loved it, the crew do an amazing build, with winning line ups every year.

The site had kind of switched round since last year, so found it a bit disorientating to start with, shame about all the tent robberies, but it seemed to die down toward the end of the weekend. My mate got cautioned by the police over a teeny bit of weed, but hampshire police seem to be very hot on drugs generally. Shitters were vastly improved over last year, glad to see organisers really took note of that, they were a bit nasty today though. Was a bit worrying to see no water on thursday afternoon and monday morning, especially as it was quite hot, rumor has it someone massacred one of the water pipes so they could have a show, personally I reckon it might just have been low pressure up that gigantic hill.

Walking up the hill to camping was, but it did mean I was popping back to the van every couple of hours, and got to see a lot of the goings on in the town.

I saw soo much, mungo's hifi was my favourite I think, soom t mc'ing for them, she was sick. Capdown was banging, so was the junk, and then panacea and producer tore me a new one. Spongebob squarewave dropping a waterbomb on his mixer mid set made me chuckle too.

Arcadia looked fantastic, the show was great, and it was nice to see it had drawn some of the crowds who dont really care what theyre watching away from the smaller nano stages. Bodyshop was vastly improved, much easier to get into and around, although it was about 2,000,000 degrees centigrade last thing on sunday night.

Camped with riklet and had some great laughs. Met ddraig and discodave and had a nice wander with them and riklet. Bumped into idumea, claire (i think), paolo and someone else (sorry ive forgotten who you are on here), also saw thor a lot. Anyway wicked to see so many freindly faces around. Can't wait for 2013!!

Amazing weather too!

not long back :)
maaaaaan crazy festy, bang on in so many respects and so many touches and detail way beyond decoration so big up the production and other crews!
proper quality music and performers everywhere in loads of fun and funny venues, you could plainly see the artists loving it too which always helps.

and Kaptain! i got more respect for you than before! after all you've done and do in Cardiff and the Chrome Kids, with Boomtown on top? Big up yaself

nice to meet some urbs and shame to miss others...

more in a bit after shower and food.

Home & hosed. Best fest of the year by some considerable distance. Beautiful setting, great set up, well run but still wonderfully scuzzy. Great to see so many old Urbanite friends and meet a few new ones too. Need sleep.....

well run but still wonderfully scuzzy

That sums up this year's Boomtown perfectly. They've upped their game so much in the last few years, but not lost any of the vibe.

I like to think of it as SGP's naughtier little brother - similar leanings towards creative, but Boomtown is the bad-ass relative. :)

May get back one year. The photos on t'other thead are amazin. Looking forward to Tort's and some more of editor's too.

Location a fucker though .... (personally speaking) :(

cracking fest though rather drama fuelled my end- mate arrested on thurs... passed a mate what i thought was whizz, erm 4-ho-met = BAD trip, same mate's camp mates didn't wake him n his bird up, so they're stuck in winchester wit no cash n missed flite home.

otherwise amazing- crcking sound, acts n punters. security were all right though seemed v keen to pass people onto police... FAR too many cops, both uniform n undercover

yeah, mungo's hifi were great, as were stush n lady leshur etc after. audio was fuckin brilliant, act of the weekend for me though producer rinsed it too, as did jack beats. loved wandering around n just constantly hearing music tht i like- garage, jungle, bassline, loads of hip hop too.

missed the meet on fri after thurs drama but did meet stuff it, though i was of 3meo pcp, doc and whatever else so fuck knows if i made sense lol

will def b back nxt year just for variety of good music, amazing sound and sound, friendly punters, loved the randomness and chaos of it. was camped up in quieter camping n didn have any probs with tents etc (possibly money got stolen, though it may have possibly been spent on drugs ) but did hear a lot of other people mentioning it. mates had phones n cash stolen from heir tents though the thieves at least left their passports n flight stuff etc (though why they left em there I dunno...)

I saw four undercover cops escorting a couple out of the hippy fields at the top on the Sunday. Love it if they were tent stealers rather than being busted for drugs.

the police on site and around the campsite were doing my head in
saw a few incidents with security which looked a bit nasty and out of order.

got in twice with loads of stuff (bags etc) with no search at all then came in a third time with water and a blanket and got the full airport treatment, pockets in a tray, feel down of the blanket etc
bloke was nice enough and i can imagine the police presence and 'search area' are part of the licence conditions

medical staff weren't too helpful either, was really worried bout a mate- constantly vomitting, feinting, sun stroke probably, was told she'd brought it on herself n shouldnt drink or take drugs (of which she'd done v little that day, hence why we were so worried. ok in the end tho

yeh, seen security basically rob a few people, either dealing or suspected- just took their stuff n walked off, didnt get the impression they'd b handing it into police...

the build on it must be mental, so much stuff everywhere. and the extra detail in the sets and venues was very impressive, people finally seeing themselves on the other telly whilst watching porn on a different one was funny.
had a sit down in one of the cars in the luna cinema with some people dancing on the boot :D

the 2 huge fireballs they set off up the hill on sat were awesome and got a reaction all over the site
