giving it a second try - i wasnt in the best mood for it last night - like it a lot more now i know what to expect - in fact found it quite emotional this time around
going back to the ballet thing, it does sound like it would work really well within a semi-theatrical stage show with a large string section.... considering what she did live with the last shows Id imagine that there will be something pretty spectacular lined up for it ... i definitely wouldnt turn down tickets for that.
But its seems like a stand alone piece of work - a suite of tunes, best played in order - a song-cycle? not sure what the best term is [i think song-cycle is right
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_cycle ]- so on a live show i doubt she'd tack on some big hits on the end.
This album is definitely further leaving her early fans behind, which i rate her for. Nice to see someone grow older and growing in ambition to do more serious work too....that doesnt happen that often i dont think...
i really rate her - proper artist - i think this one really pushes at the edges of contemporary classical music, which from what i gather tends to be full of atonal messing about - a dead end as far as im concerned - where as this album fuses electronic elements, including abstracted drums, with melodic strings and integrates them seamlessly.
Classical music seems completely stuck in certain traditions so maybe it takes people coming from outside of it to break some new ground....funnily enough since we're talking about Bjork, Goldie Timeless with an orchestra thing which people raved about last year is another example of other possibilities.
