BBC6 Radio - comment, discussion and moans

Driving home yesterday evening there was a good electronic mix playing which was a welcome change from "all new music fix"

I don’t mind Amy Lame. She’s synonymous with weekend mornings for me, her music is pretty good and her speaking bits are ok. I think the secret with 6music is to just listen to the djs who you like and don’t mess with the people who annoy you. I do this except in the morning when my need to for sound overrides my hatered of the djs.

I'm gonna get a dartboard made.

It's his creepy, wannabe Craig Charles voice. And talking over music. Or in his case, rarely playing any music at all.

This afternoon/early evening has been cracking so far, two hours of great stuff from Nicky Wire & now two hours of Can related grooviness from Tom Robinson.

Can whoever created that mental graphic about Keavney's show which showed how much bullshit he talked, the stings, the news compared to the amount of music he played please repost it?

I think we need a reboot of it for Laverne and Craig Charles. Keaveny said he loved it btw and was going to get it printed on a tshirt.

Those two on the new music fix show that airs early evening should stop trying to categorise the 'new' music in to genres. Yesterday they used terms like 'post punk' and 'art rock'. Artist and track title will do. Let the listeners do the rest please. 'Post-punk' ffs - what year is this? 1979? It's cringe listening to them both try to explain a sound and end up with 'dark, jazzy, dubby, beats' or something equally vacuous. I bet they're the sort of people that ask 'what kind of music do you like?' when they meet someone new.

'erm, all kinds....

Oh, we like dark, jazzy, dubby beat music....

Laverne has a new feature which comes in after Cloudbusting. 'The People's Pinboard'. Complete with a really annoying intro sting.

Where self satisfied fucks let her know that after getting Cecil and Amelia off to school they're going to let their hair down with a nice cup of tea and rock out to Depeche Mode.

turned on yesterday and elbows new single is on the playlists. That alone is enough to flip my Garvey anger switch and seek musical solace elsewhere

Is there anyone more universally dislikable than Garvey

Huw Stephens and Craig Charles are. But it's a matter of opinion. They're all so up their own arse aren't they. Imagine their staff parties.

I've literally just turned down the amp to 0 in response to their tune starting.

I did once hear him say something like "Because I'm in a band, and travel the world I can discover new music for you that will change your life. For instance this Canadian called Neil Young. Thank me later". He's an offensive prize twat.

I'm guessing he was just being 'amusing' here as nobody who listens to 6Music doesn't know who Neil Young is? Even so, he's a boring arse.

NTS in buckets but not a show as such
Id really like a show I can check once in a while and get my fill - I never listen to this kind of thing but I do like the odd tune - there must be a specialist show out there, and ideally one not too gothy and mopey and a bit more thrashy energy

bizarre really
i dont know how it does it but bbc radio manages to suck the life out of music like no one else

It was a nail in the coffin for sure. I got to know so many bands through the Lockup. Davies was awesome too, presented it direct from LA, was totally connected to both the US and UK scenes, and got so many artists in that the BBC would never have got the same access to otherwise. And of course curated the Lockup stage at Reading for years. It was a crying shame when they cancelled it.

The BBC even has a whole station dedicated to 'Dance music' but mostly fills with generic pre-records and presenterless shows filed with mainstream chart dance - not one show is dedicated to breaks or speed garage, nor psytrance or happy hardcore. It's just generic and boring.
