About the 15-year-old shot dead in Australia

Very sorry about the loss of another young boy, and on this occasion they seemed to have ganged up on him, three policemen shot him and in the chest, I mean, like mentioned before, couldn't they shoot at his leg or hand to disarm him-supposedly he was holding two knives- and what is this obsession with shooting at the chest ?
:(

about the Economist's article -narcodollars' post-

I've read it, have a bone to pick with it, but no sources - yet - to back my argument/s, will try to get some and post as soon as possible.
*I will not make an analysis or anything, wouldn't want this topic to reach 100 pages or more :p-directed at Dimitris this

Sorry, don't know if anyone is posted this already, but libcom's coverage of the riots is in our new Greece unrest section: http://libcom.org/tags/greece-unrest

Of particular interest is the coverage before the riot started of many of the events which have been building up to the explosion: the habitual police brutality, the government austerity measures, the strikes, immigration stuff, etc

thanks icepick, haven't seen the site posted here before only some of the photos, I'll have a better look at it , it seems like a good source for info.
Thanks again

About the Economist's article -narcodollars' post-

A quick note, after realizing how long it is going to take me to find the correct figures and credible sources and write it... just in case you might prefer a quick response, in a few words: it is a very biased piece! (I will try to post about it though, hope soon enough) even from the adjectives he uses you can tell where he stands

still no other sources than my own memory and own views on it. With everything needing to be done from now on, I will not have the time to spend more on this for credible sources etc, but I said I was going to post about this again, so here it goes :

-some figures first -he mentions that the figure for unemployment in young graduates is 21% - According to other statistics (I have read in the past-not kept cuttings from newspapers though) it is closer to 25% or more. Also he mentions 8% for unemployment of the whole population, that is a very much "fluid" number and probably very manipulated. But I guess these are only numbers, and statistics can be as "fluid" as the person analyzing them, or reporting about them, or "cooking" them from the beginning when constructing the way the "numbers" are to be allocated in the survey.

-some more numbers: when he's referring to the demos in Athens. "... average is said to be 2 a week..." From my own memory of statistics about it, it is about 1,5 a day, and from TIMES ON LINE and Matthew Campbell's article "Greek Riots spark Fear of Europe in flames" -dec/14/2008 : "... there were 902 demonstrations in Athens last year..." Not that it matters really, the fact is, we Do have A Lot of demos in Athens, but the journalist in the Economist chooses to get his facts from a source that prefers the manipulation of numbers in order to portray a calm, and peaceful and somewhat orderly Athens. Some different numbers lately have shown a different Athena!
Also in the same article, the way mr. Karamanlis won the elections is described more honestly, and I agree more with this view than the "... he cruised through the last 2 elections ...".
The link to this article can be found on Barking_Mad's post #300, and thanks for the link Barking_Mad.
Also the reason mr. karamanlis won the elections that the Economist's journalist gives is again extremely far from the truth. The reason was financial at the last election anyway, but not in the sense of the strength of Greece's economy, more about the financial aid he gave to the areas damaged by the fires of 2007, but especially for other more corrupted reasons than giving money to people who lost everything just before the voting booths. As far as the first time he won, it was definitely not for reasons such as "... on the strength of Greece's economic growth ..." but more about weaknesses of other parties.

I'm going to finish this note by just repeating some of his own words and instead of a comment some highlighting :
-The trouble is that protests so easily turn violent
-modern Greeks' enthusiasm for protest
and the title of the article :
-They do protest too much
-Sometimes a group of hooded young men, who style themselves anarchists"...

also as far as how much scruffy or not Exarhia is, Dimitris has posted about it and provided a link in his #168 post, but you can google it, or come and visit us and judge for yourselves.

Oh dear what a tragedy........Wait a moment, what's this?
Police said Tyler Cassidy yelled: "Kill me, I'm going to kill you," as officers warned him to put down his weapons and capsicum spray twice failed to subdue him.
It has emerged that Tyler joined the "white pride" anti-immigration group Southern Cross Soldiers four months ago.
One of those who knew Tyler, and attests to his violent temper, told the Herald Sun that unless the police shot Tyler, he would have made good on his threat to kill the officer.

So he was an armed nut case racist bastard with a history of violence and an
evil temper.

Fuck the daft little bastard.
RIP? Ner go rot in hell you nasty little cunt.

Same goes for the daft little prick in Grease. No way do I believe he was just an innocent kid.
Better chance when we find out the truth he will turn out out to be the same sort of scumbag that the Australian police just saved the world from.

Seems the family are moaning saying "he dies alone without his family by his side".

Handy for them really as the little bastard had tried to kill them only an hour or so before he died.

off the thread you odious fuck

Sorry for ruining your nice lefty love in with silly little things like the truth.

Why so keen to defend a racist who tried to kill several times in less than two hours?
What soft pilchard asked if they could have shot him in the leg?
Try using a handgun against a moving target before spouting off. You aim for body mass. It's the easiest target. While you are fucking about asking him to stand still so you can disable him he may be able to take a hostage or even kill someone.

I thought the idea of debate was to point out sides to an argument and put forward your opinions as to that argument.
Still in seems in the world of the left it's fine to do so as long as you agree all the time and don't care about the truth.
Stalin come home, all is forgiven.

Regardless of his supposed nationalistic views, he was a 15 year old boy shot dead needlessly. I detest nationalism, i find it ugly, but
he was 15!!!! obviously had issues concerning his mental health. No need for 3 police officers to shoot him dead.

Yeah, but you haven't done any of that, have you?

Sorry for ruining your nice lefty love in with silly little things like the truth.

What "truth"? The truth, here, seems to have passed you by.

Around 50 anarchists in rome went on a rampage after a demo at the greek consulate. Police cars were attacked, banks smashed, bins put on fire...you know what i mean - a typical day in Europe!

Hang on, have I missed something here? The 15 year old who was shot was a nationalist?:confused:

I'm sorry but I don't see how valid is the attempt to try to excuse or defend any killing because of the -supposedly illicit behaviour or -character of the victims.
There seems to be a common tactic used by the side of the murderers in all cases to slander the victims after their death in order to sway public opinion about the murder and of right wing rags that play the tune of "calm, order and safety".
Who died and made them judges of anyone's character or behaviour, and are they trying to tell us that it is not so bad to kill a young boy or anyone for that matter if they judge his behaviour or character was in question,
and in any case how did they know all these details before the shooting?
Do they have a list of people of questionable character, beliefs, attitude and behaviour and they pick a name evey so often,
go out with their toys-because obviously they don't use responsibly those bloody things- and "do their thing" and cross the name from their list?

The idea of defending a murder from the police because of the victim's character not only seems totally ridiculous but reminds us Greeks the times when the police and the authorities had people's beliefs and political affiliation attached to their names in their files which they used for all kinds of reasons, from not letting them getting any kind of job to sending them to exile when politics were heating up and they needed to restore their "calm, order and safety".

Well, derf is an idiot.

No derf is about the only one who seems to have taken the time to look into these stories and try to see beyond the posters who spout off with no facts and a political agenda so clear you can see it a mile away.

In both cases it's the police pigs murdered a poor little kid for no reason if the first poster who mentioned it is to be believed.
In both cases there was far more to it that than the poster's narrow version of the truth would allow them to post.

The first dead bastard turned out to be a member of the far left or at least a thug using it as an excuse to be a bastard. he got caught point blank by a pig who aimed straight at him until you find out that it was an accident and the bullet bounced off a wall first.
The second was a bastard of the extreme right who had just tried to kill his own family before attacking the cops.

Both died as a result of their own stupidity. Tough shit. As for the rioters I hope they drop their own petrol bombs in their laps so they can see what risk the coppers take while protecting the public from scumbags like them.
