Athens Greece: Cops murder a 16 year old

about the military

Dimitris posted -and I read somewhere else as well- that there is a state of HIGH ALERT at the military and that all soldiers on leave were called back. Now I was also very worried about this, and talked to a few people that have more knowledge about the military, and I was told that this is common when there are out of control situations -and the last events are definitely out of their control- but it is very unlikely to lead to anything like seeing our soldiers or anything else in our streets against our students and demonstrators -the memory of the dictatorship and Polytechnio is too vivid for anyone ,even that pathetic clown karamanlis to even think about it. So, supposedly it's common practice for the military this High Alert and under High Alert all soldiers are called back. Let's hope that's the case. I think more than hope that this is the case.

all over Greece occupations of schools, unis and even police stations, more occupations of streets by students and demonstrations towards police stations that last up to a few hours happening as we speak and new ones added with every hour, at places students throwing fruit and stones to the police, at places the police release chemicals against students(now that's an interesting comparison) in general the smell of uprising is in the air and it is much stronger than of those of the new chemicals-really nasty those, I had a bit of a taste yesterday as I was coming back.
Well, I for one am delighted by the general uprising and feel it is a very healthy sign but unfortunately have to go back to work, otherwise no money this week and I am late with some orders already, so I will leave it to Dimitris for the latest and,

Dimitri :"you stay safe out there!"

Thanks to all of you for your interest and your support about the recent events here and hope to see you soon around urban75

Hello

I appear online all day because my friends pc is on, but I am not I am still in Athens... I was in the streets since this morning there are A LOT going on, Stella has covered nearly everything up to now :)

This morning I was at Ag Dimitris Town Hall (a suburb of Athens) it was occupied by comrades, I am not there any more and I am not sure if the occupation is still going on....

There is a demo tonight at 6, a student demo tomorrow morning and also a student demo outside the parlimanet tomorrow at 15:00.

I am now translating in english an announcement of the Antiauthoritarian Movement in a bit I will post it on here. I have not slept enough and I dont know if the translation will be very good but it is better than nothing.

Nearly all night there were clashes with the police at the area surrounding the Polytechnic which is still occupied. One badly injured comrade on his leg was finally transfered last night to the hospital by car and not ambulance in order to avoid arrest.

Please I encourage you again to pass all the info me and Stella give you to ANYWHERE possible. Feel free to copy paste my posts here or any other relevant information that you may have.

DO NOT TRUST THE MEDIA TOO MUCH, there is a number of lies that they have told up to now

The result of the ballistic tests hasn't been released yet, so any previous claims about ricochet were from the side of the murderer, and were only a defense tactic, that some right wing nuts also used to try to calm the rage of the vast majority of Greeks about the brutal murder of Alexis.
Alexis' family hasn't put the technical advisors for the ballistic testing yet (thursday morning), and that is the reason for the delay(from greek newspapers, this morning). Also -I agree with you Dimitris that they could be "cooked" and might have even been cooked already and Alexis family's advisors might only have the chance to read the report and not participate in the tests, I'm not sure how that works- but it lessens the percentage of the "cooking", although I'm not sure how much influence to the results their contribution will have

Yes I learned the same this morning, apparently mr Kougias was bluffing yesterday when he said that the report allready exists.

I transfer you Kougias exact words " The court will decide if Alexis had to die or not " !!!!!

and the report :
17 hours ago: A far-right supporter, holding a knife, threatens protesters during riots outside the Athens Polytechnic December 10, 2008. Riot police clashed with demonstrators for a fifth day during a general strike which paralysed Greece and piled pressure on a conservative government reeling from the worst riots in decades.

By Reuters this one

From Garizo/NEA από όλο τον Κόσμο:

The Policeman, murderer of Alexis Grigoropoulos, named Korkoneas comes from Kalamata , from ultra right wing family tradition.

As per Indymedia Athens, his family environment and family members, were participating in the right wing ProNAZI gangs during the German occupation in Greece (WWII), collaborating with the NAZI. (Tagmatasfalites).

According to Indymedia Athens, his family members after the war and during the Greek civil war joined criminal gangs of “Maganas” and “Katsarea” that massacred the region of Kalamata after the period of Várkiza agreement.

The killer Korkoneas was a member of the Core action group of the Pro NAZI Golden Dawn ( Hrysi Avgi) in Kalamata in the late 80s and early 90s. Then joined the Special army Forces (LOK) and in 1999 was one of the first that was recruited to the newly established body of “Special Guards” a special body within the Greek Police. He served in Exarhia and was of those who had the most provocative behaviour for years.

The police and especially the MAT and Special Guards have close relations with Fascist organisations and Pro Nazis.

Rip Alexandros Grigoropoulos. Hope the riots + media spin of them don't burn too many locals out into opposition.

Amusingly, this is the top comment on the BBC Have Your Say debate

What will end the Greek riots?

We shouldn't end them, we should join them.

The people of Europe should rise up against the monolithic vehicles of oppression that our governments have become in recent years.

We should write a new European constitution & bring in our own government, of the people & for the people, so that the bureaucrats at home & in Brussels can't go on ruining our lives.

Enslavement is not far away, but we can stop it.

about Kougias

Dimitri I was  as well, it seems some other people felt the same and he's been sent to PEITHARHIKO, a good piece of news for you when you come back safe
- The Lawyer Dimitris mentioned before about his outrageous comment (I heard the whole thing myself, it was not taken out of context, or rubbish like he claimed later)is going to face questioning from the own lawyers internal judicial department, it is possible he could lose his lisence- although to tell you the truth I doubt it very much, they are all fascists in there

about what A.Spies wrote

"...Hope the riots+media spin
(and that's all there is from them, although lately even the sold out media had to change their tune a bit, I'm told and seen myself on YouTube clips from the news and I almost couldn't believe how some absolute idiots, definitely sold out and extremely biased to a disgusting degree journalists have been -mostly- on the side of the protest, although they still show mainly the destructions and so on, they can't hide the facts)
of them don't burn too many locals out into opposition."
I had a discussion about this yesterday and there is a slight chance for that, the only thing is that the opposition is very strong at the moment against the government and the police of course, that it reaches the point of rage. It seems unlikely to me that anyone that isn't a fascist will turn against protesters just because (about 435) some shops were damaged, and anyway the clown we have for a prime minister announced yesterday major financial aid and compensation and even loans with "friendly terms" for greatly damaged business, so I think they wont be too bruised in the end since unfortunately some people's hearts pump euros instead of blood...
In general though I don't think it's possible for the majority to turn against the protests because what happened has upset even the most cold or euro hearted of Greeks, even the president of the Commerce Association said a few days ago when asked about the damages: "we can't think now about material damages when a life has been lost" and most of the damages had been done then.
The rage is not coming just from the young but every age. There was a report on the radio this morning describing the events outside a police station and one image he described stuck with me; a student holding her mother's hand was throwing stones at the riot police and shouting together with her mum "MURDERERS"- Holding her mother's hand, I have not heard of anything like that about demonstrations recently in Greece. Like I said before, many Poets of social action and new ones being born with all these, and such beautiful and healthy images of social uprising not seen in Greece for ages... Pure Poetry what these young people are doing, they are writing history and doing it in Rhyme

Stalinists start the slanders

Day 5 of the revolt in Greece

While the clashes between the riot police and the people,
particularly the youth, five days after the killing of the 15 years
old Alexis Grigoropoulos continue without interruption, a General
Strike called by GSEE( General Confederation of Labor) and ADEDY(
National Federation of Public Employs) for December the 10th took
successfully place. The Strike was particularly successful in the
Public, Education, Health, and Transport sectors.

The Prime Minister Karamanlis made a public call and sent an
official letter to the leadership of the Confederation to cancel not
only the march, which traditionally follows the central rally the day
of the General Strike, but the rally in Syntagma Square as well and
the strike itself "because of the tense situation". The trade union
bureaucracy had already cancelled the march and transferred the rally
from the traditional place in front of the headquarters of GSEE to
Syntagma Square, in front of the Parliament "in support of
parliamentary democracy". But the GSEE leadership dominated by PASOK
did not dare to cancel the Strike or the rally, as Karamanlis
demanded, fearing that the mass workers movement will mobilize
independently and against the bureaucrats.

Under the combined pressures of the New Democracy government, of
PASOK, and above all, of the Stalinist KKE which accused the reformist
Synaspismos and its allies in SYRIZA to cover up for the "hooligans
destroying social peace and private property", SYRIZA cancelled its
march and transferred its rally near Syntagma Square.

The Stalinists of KKE( who recently rehabilitated officially not
only Stalin but also the verdict of the Moscow Trials and the purges
of the `30s in the Soviet Union) have become the main slanderers of
the youth revolt calling the young rebels "Talibans", "gangsters",
"drug dealers", " prostitution dealers"(!!), "police agents" etc.
Today in all mass media, the Right and particularly the fascists of
the far right party LAOS praised, quoted approvingly, and repeated ad
nauseam all the despicable slanders of the Gen. Sec. of KKE, A.
Papariga against the revolt.

For the General Strike, they organized their own separate rally
in Omonia Square and then they moved two blocks in the other direction
and dispersed! They were less than 4.000.

So the only march in Athens in the day of the General Strike was
that organized by the far left organizations of MERA( Front of Radical
Front, which includes EEK) and of ENANTIA( United Anti-capitalist
Left), joined by two Maoist groups and the Anti-Authoritarian Movement
(anarchist). Some class struggle sections of
the trade union movement, particularly in the Public sector, Health,
Education, technical engineers etc., including the Federation of the
high schools teachers refused to go neither with the PASOK-led GSEE or
the Stalinists and joined us putting themselves in the first ranks of
our march. It was the most impressive march of the Greek far left for
decades: about 25.000 people! EEK had its strongest contingent for all
its recent history. The Italian TV( which took also an interview by
Savas Michael of EEK) as well as other foreign TV channels have showed
our march- but not the Greek State TV, which nevertheless showed the
tiny rally of GSEE in Syntagma and the Stalinist gathering in Omonia.

There were only small clashes with the riot police during the
march, which, of course, geometrically escalated after the end of the
march, and still continue this hour (around midnight, Greek time)
around the Polytechnic University under occupation. The police use
there tonight also goons of the paramilitary fascist group "Golden
Dawn" - as they already did yesterday in Patras injuring with a knife
a young girl- and threaten to attack also our Independent Action
Center in the occupied Law Faculty in the Athens University.

In the Law Faculty under occupation, after the march, two
General Assemblies took place: a Workers Assembly joined by hundreds
of class struggle trade-unionists and a Student Assembly joined by
representatives from nearly all the student unions of the Athens
University. The traditions of the 1973 Polytechnic uprising against
the CIA junta are revived: at that time too there were a Workers' and
a Students' Assembly coordinating their actions as we do today. The
Independent Action Center is precisely this Coordination.

A Statement was drafted and voted with a series of demands (for
the abolition of anti-trade union, anti-pension, police state
legislations, for wages increases, against privatizations, for
nationalizations under workers control etc.), a call for an indefinite
General Strike to overthrow the government, and a solemn decision for
civil disobedience, demonstrations, strikes etc. against the State of
Emergency prepared by the New Democracy government. The Statement, of
course called also for the immediate release of all arrested, whose
number until now is higher than 150 people, most of them young boys
and girls around 15 years, the first target of this horrendous
capitalist government of kid killers.

Another provocation became public today: the Medical -Legal
Department of the Police wants to issue a verdict declaring the
killing of Alexis .an accident. At the same time the two police
murderers in their deposition in the Interrogator, made public by
their lawyer (a notorious lawyer of the mob), accused their young
victim to be "a nasty hooligan with a disturbed behavior", "kicked out
from his school" (the school rejected officially the slander). This
character assassination- the Second Murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos-
undoubtedly will provoke a new wave of explosions, keeping in mind
that in the forefront of the struggle is 14-15 years schoolchildren.

Tomorrow there will be another student and schoolchildren
demonstration. The same, the day after tomorrow. The mobilization will
not stop until victory.

On December 18, the government budget is voted in parliament
and another General Strike is planned for that day.

about those bold fonts referring to Stalinist KKE"Fedayan's post"

I have mentioned in a previous post that my views are tinted by KKE's ideology but have also stated not feeling I belonged there at the assembly in Omonoia square on Monday and also how sad and upset I've been during the last days because of comments from people I love, people I respect and people I value their beliefs- that does NOT mean I value all of their beliefs, and to make something clear: I have never been a registered member of KKE and never will, I have voted for it , but not lately and I was more upset than you Fedayan(believe me) from Papariga's statements at different occasions about the protesters, the anarchists and radical left groups, and her comments about Syriza. As far as Wednesday I did not stay long at Omonoia but walked along Stadiou and ended up at Sindagma and stayed there. I do not feel I need to apologize, explain or excuse KKE's policy, tactics, statements, comments or ideology since I am not a member and therefore it is not my place to do so, so if the BOLD fonts about the Stalinist KKE was poking at me because I mentioned it as tinting my views I believe this post is my reply.
Anyway, about the rest of your post and even the bit in bold, thanks.
Respect!

Hello all... Back home finally.

Good post Fedayn, especially the bold part ;) Good that Stella is not a dedicated stalinist (although a KKE follower) because this topic would have 100 pages now :p

The fact is that the greek media show less of the demonstrations now... Today a demo took place in the centre of Athens again (I was there) but there was not a single report at the TV as I have been told.

It was not a big demo, compared to the ones of the days before, we were about 2000 people, but a very passionate and angry demo. A lot of comrades on the demo as well as students and young teenagers. The anger and rage of the teenagers especially made us all feel that this demo was worth it for one more time. A lot of us we were there ready for "battle" but no battle for today. It felt even better though at a couple of points as we shouted at the pigs as much as we wanted. A rumour said that they have run out of chemicals so they looked like powerless today... They were looking at us and it seemed that they wanted to attack but nothing was happening.... Only at a point in Syntagma square they threw some chemicals. At Stadiou str. near a ministry, they heard a lot of abuse right on their face but with no responce. Police was in all the alleys that connect Panepistimiou and Stadiou str (2 parallell roads) and we were afraid that they could surround us but it did not happen. They did try once and one comrade attacked on one cop and threw him down, with all the rest cheering. At a point they threw some chemicals again and we went near Panepistimio tube station. There some road blocks did get formed and a small riot started with stone throwing against the police but it ended soon enough and that was more or less the end of the demo. While being on that incident, a chemical bomb was thrown INSIDE the tube station and as a result the workers had to come up because it was impossible for them to breathe in there. Quite enough shop owners did not get terrorized by the police warnings and had not closed down their shops but stayed there looking at the demo. Some others though quickly closed down everything as the demo was passing... I understand that a lot of us are tired after all these days of riots and demos (I am rather tired as well) but we should not give up the fight now.

As Stella has allready told you, a lot of student and pupil demos did take place today and in Athens and elsewhere in Greece. At a point there were 10 different attacks against 10 different police stations in Athens today ALL by school kids.

The town hall of Ag Dimitrios in Brahami (surburb of Athens) was peacefully taken over by the workers, inhabitans and comrades this morning and it is still taken over as we speak. The buidlings of the Polytechnic and the Law department are also taken over still.

A lot of university buildings have been taken over by comrades around Greece so no lectures etc are going to take place there. Now the KKE and EEAK members in occasions they have CLOSED DOWN (locked) departments by themselves... They did that without the decision to be taken from a general assembly and it is an attempt by them not to let those buildings to be taken over as well... You see how KKE finds ways to help the system even now again, as it was mentioned and at the text of my blog.

Below you can see a map with all big demo and clashes against police that have taken place around Greece. It does not contain every single demo because you would just see red and black stars and no map at all... It is just the main ones

map_v3.jpg

As you can see this revolt has nearly taken over whole Greece and is not an isolated incident or some vandals in Athens and Thessaloniki only (the 2 big cities)

I should not forget to mention and the BIG demonstration In Patras today, it is still going on now.. More than 5000 demonstrators take part, a HUDGE number for a small city like Patras, and it is a good answer on the fascist attacks that took place yesterday in that town.

2 student demos have been planned for tomorrow.

THESE ARE THE NIGHTS OF ALEXIS ....

NO JUSTICE NO PEACE

COPS PIGS MURDERERS

I had no idea you were KKE Stella and it certainly wasn't aimed at you.

During the last 7 pages at various points I have mentioned you Exarchia, but I have never up to now really told you why Exarchia is so different and important for all of us.... In Exarchia Alexis was murdered ...

This area is really significant for Athens. Just behind the Polytechnic School, it is an area were many students traditionally used to live and became a center of resistance during the military junta. Many social centers and small shops are found in this area of 90,000 m2 and 22,068 residents. It is the only area which conserves the architectural tradition of the 18th/19th centuries, people live as a community and they are not absorbed by individualism. It is an open space, where people from all over Athens and Greece participate in various events. The area also has a lot of green, mostly on Strefi hill.

The governments though, are quite uncomfortable about that. For years they have been trying to absorb the people into individualism. Their friends, the construction companies, see in the green Strefi hill a piece of land where they would happily build huge commercial centers and blocks of flats.

To achieve all these, EF and MAT (EF = Special Guards and MAT = Riot Police) patrols have been permanently installed for the last 4 or 5 years. The people, though, organised the Exarchia Residents Committee and managed to stop the re innovation plans. They also organised free exchange markets while in the area free lessons of using computers and of the greek language are delivered to refugees. (photos at:
http://exarchia.pblogs.gr/2008/12/den-katanalwnw-epanahrhsimopoiw-anakyklwnw.html)

That's why the murder of a 16-year-old boy by an EF in Exarchia outraged the people so much. That's why it spread all over Greece. While the mainstream media want to promote a few-anarchists-overreact image, it is far from the truth as I have allready explained all these days.

Exarchia are labeled by the mainstream media as an area full of vandals hooligans and drug addicts. Of course it is far from true.... It is an area, the only one in Athens that you can at least feel a bit free ...

Here's a recent article on Greece's riots, but I encourage some firsthand feedback from you, since I notice this particular article seems to express a bias toward the status quo.

Let me just say that I've been protesting worldwide police brutality for a few years now, and this is a textbook example of the problem between society and law enforcement.

Two photos taken by mobile phone, from today's demo in Athens... The quality is not good because it is from a mobile

11122008.jpg

11122008-_1_.jpg

The lovely guys ( :p ) that you see on these two photos are EKAM, a very special police force. They decided to bring them to the demo today and as you can possibly see on the second photo one of them has taken out his GUN. Unfortunately the photo was not timed correctly so you cannot see the pig with his gun on the air (he did not shoot though) but when he put it down again, but the fact is that they still like to play with their "toys" nomatter the hudge public anger because of this.

The more I see of the greek police the more I'm convinced that they are just an undisciplined rabble with uniforms, clubs, gas and guns.

By the way I forgot to introduce you to EKAM exactly they are the Special Reppresion Counter Terrorism Force. I NEVER remember them on demonstrations they exist more for situations that include guns.... They are the "commandos" of the greek police supposed to be specially trained for dangerous missions. They are similar and cooperate with the following forces ....

F.B.I. / Hostage Rescue Team.
U.S. Marshals / Special Operation Group.
U.S. Army Special Forces.
New Scotland Yard / SO19.
G.E.O. Spain.
R.A.I.D. France
S.E.K. Berlin Germany.
Cobra Austria.

Don't ask me why they were out on the streets today.... I dont know and I really dont like strange scenarios etc.

If they shoudl aim somewhere should be their own heads.... the fuckers

Under NO fucking circumstances you dont shoot at a 15 year old kid... a KID for fucks shake...

OK he attacked them (at least that is THEIR side of the story) but they could find other ways to stop him rather than shoot... peper spray for example??

Eyewitness have said the fucking coppers were trigger happy.
Sounds that way, shot by 3 of the bastards.
